Tournuments in PoP

Hello,

Well I just started playing this mod and it is great fun, only one thing that bothers me, tournaments. I have never had any problems winning tournaments in other mods but in this I find is close to impossible. I have probably reloaded a save before one like 30 times because, well I really need the money. I just can't win it.
It's more of a rule rather then an exception that my team of say 6 people always dies and just take out maybe one or 2 of their ending up in me facing about 4 people alone, which is quite impossible. This always, always, always happens and I'm honestly starting to suspect that this mod boosts the power of an opposing team. Like in 4 team fights, one team always ends up totally crushing another team. Like my team fighting against another and winning but loosing men and the other team who won comes with a full rooster not losing a single one, this happens so often I can't think it's an coincidence. So any tips on how to win? This isi quite frustrating.

Another problem I have that isnt exklusive to this mod is when I face 1on1 in a tournament. How do I win against the AI machingunarm? I can block a few and get in a hit when I does but as the shield can block like 4 hits at most I can't do much more after that. Then He just hits and hits and hits I have no way to hit him

Read this carefully. Tournaments have been greatly increased in difficulty. As has their reward. A champion fighter IS a champion fighter and no toyboy wielding a wooden stick enjoying getting smacked for good and a mackerel. If you lack the personal combat skill to win tournaments early on with low proficiencies, or the luck, just avoid them till you´re around 150+ weapon proficiencies (roughly lvl 15). That´s about the point where you´ll start to have a slight chance against the beefed up fighters. Lowering the difficulty for the tourney can help too. But expecting to win tournaments under lvl 10 requires luck and outstanding combat skills or a pure lancing tournament (Sarleon).

Furthermore, tournaments differ from town to town, depending on the faction. The easiest to win tourneys take place in Sarleon as they´re purely jousting ones you´ll be accustomed to from native wth a few changes - like the mighty backup club, Saver of Many Dire and Grave Situations.

If you really need the money, go sell some nude pictures of yourself or check this:

When you start winning tornys at level 5 or less then you might as well "run around with a rusty butcher knife, a loincloth and a tooth pick" and conquer Pendor

I managed to win a few tourneys in the beginning but it was really hard. One question I have is why do I occasionally win a piece of armor or weapon? I've done a ton of tourneys and this has only happened a few times and out of those few times almost all of them have ended up with me losing the loot because my inventory was full.

Why is your inventory full? Is it full of honey, which looks suspiciously like a jar of vaseline?
Seriously, you have about 10% chance of winning a high level armor or shield in addition to prize money and bets.

I like to buy all the velvet and spices I can carry to maximize profits. The two times I did win armour I was on my way back from the South and stopped in Valonbray/Windholm to see how much I'd get. I noticed there was a tournament so i joined it, won, and won/lost an item. It was a sad day.

It was indeed. The items you get from tournaments are usually very rare or non-merchandise ones. Quite worth the effort.

Actually the tournaments in this mod are extremely easy, and you can make ridiculous amounts of cash with them. They're a bit OP to be honest. I've made more than 100k in the first one or two weeks.

I almost never get items from tournaments though, which makes me sad

Yep.

Jak my man here some tips:

1. Strategy. In mass combat, order your troops to occupy some isolated corner and wait till the other idiots wipe themselves out before bum-rushing them. This move is rather cowardly however and won't win you any Pendor lasses in the after-parties  ...medieval chicks...

2. 1v1: It's all about the overhead chop. Raise that stick and charge right in!!! You'll need to practice the timing though. Once you score a hit, the enemy gets knocked back enough to follow through with another thrust...sorry I can't help myself

3. General combat tip. When performing a sideways slash, always swerve your character into the direction of the swing such that you're striking your opponent from the corner of your eye. You do much more damage this way. NEVER hit an opponent while facing him/her straight. I ALWAYS hit it from the side!!!

...ok back to True Blood...this series kicks so much ass right now.

And it decreases the time it takes for your swing to connect so that you hit sooner.

Avoid the melee confrontations unless you know you're in a comfortable 1v1 situation.  Try to grab someone's horse.

If you are stuck in melee, high athletics is the difference between life and death.  Not only can you run when the situation gets bad, you can also slash and run past the guy if he has buddies backing him up.  Just repeatedly charge and then overshoot past him, turn around like Bull and charge past again.

Also, take off the heavy boots before going into the tournament on foot.

If you want to be a decent foot combatant you'll need high Athletics (primary skill, movement speed) and moderate-high weapon proficiencies (strikes speed). Without such things your chances are very low except mounted lancers tournament in Sarleon. Tournaments in this mod are not for beginners. Champion fighters are very skilled combatants with high speed of strikes and movement - you're not be able even to block and counterattack such opponents in duel if you have low weapon proficiency.

I find the tournaments in this mod to be a little bit more difficult than native but, then again, native was pretty much a piece of cake, and PoP isn't that hard either. As soon as you get a good enough level, it will be very very hard to lose tournaments - unless you are a recent player, still learning the ropes (of course).
Well, since some ppl have given some hints, here's mine:

Doesn't always works (nothing always works... use your brains always), but in tournaments where there are many ranged weapons, and specially when there are many ranged ppl on horseback, get your whole team to dismount, and maybe even to go to some specific place. In this way, you can get them away from the main fray, stop being targets for the enemy, and make them hit others much better, since AI aiming on horseback is pitifull.
Anyways... I do this many times, although, as stated - not every time.
I also like to have all my troops on foot if the enemy is all on horseback, and vice-versa.
If you are all on horseback and the enemy not, then your troops distract the enemy and are more protected, while you do the real killing.
If your troops are on foot and the enemy on horseback, it's very easy to order them around, and create traps for horses and horsemen. picking them one by one.

Bah... whatever,  just enjoy.

PS: Oh, and keep an eye for ***** archers. Check if they are specifically aiming at you, and also, when you get the hang of it... how good they are, how quick. Is Kradus shooting or merely a Veteran fighter? It does make a difference.

yeah archers are most dangerous opponent in arena. But also on the battlefield if u are lancer .
Other clases are easy to beat at arena. But i think lv 4-5 is minimum, just so u have a bit of that wep speed.
