I do like Tournaments its a fun way to make some little cash, wish you could bet alot more on yourself tho and had a little choice of what role you play ( I hate spawning as a foot archer )

Wondering if in the final version this aspect of the game would be better expanded. I feel it would be definatly something worth the time of the developers.

This game is already very awesome, very well done I mean even the graphics are excellent. This only being beta I honestly cant wait to see whats in store for us with the full version.

you hate being a foot archer? foot archer is a sure win for me

just wauit till they come close and give them a head shot

Betting more moneys will make the game easier i dont know if it will be a good thing or bad but if you can bet for 1000 denars you would do a couple of fights and earn more money than you do from more troublesome jobs. Arena fights are easy and you can simply load if you lose. And choosing the type of combatant you want to be in an arena fight is completely meaningles since the importance of arena fights are their odds, you fight as what is told to you thats the point of gladiatorship.

I would like to see Arenas and a Zendar-style town layout for the two captial cities, Sargoth... and the Vaegir one.

Then, once you were good enough in Zendar you could "qualify" to get into one of those two.

I can imagine a Roman mod at some point that will expand on the arena I'm sure. I have been doing a bit of work on roman models and textures but I'm pretty bad, I need a lot more practise.

I enter the arena when I need a little more cash to get something, its useful and pretty fun. The first thing I did in the game was watch a fight, just to see what the fighting was like and I was amazed at the realism of the combat.

As for me arena is just a way to earn some cash at the beginning, 'cause you don't receive to much experience in arena, but it's more safe way to get money. Just compare when you go to arena equiped for free and get easy money, and when you are charged by several horsemen only with some townsmen by your side and with 1 level character.

I think it's reasonable to go to the arena at the beginning.

Easy money.

Tournaments are great save for when you spawned as a footman, and it's come down to you vs a mounted archer, where all other horses in the fight have died.

It's not that this is difficult as such, just that it is friggin ANNOYING. You have to pretty much rely on the horse archer AI being equivalent to that of a slack jaw yokel and run into the wall and then stay there for a long enough time for you to catch up and hack him down.

If the distance between you is too great, then the bugger will ride off to the opposite end of the arena, and you repeat this ad naseum until finally the bugger sits idle for long enough for you to hit him.

%^&^!!

The other annoying part is how, regardless of your athletics skill, the other buggers in the arena can go about 3x faster than you.. While running backwards..

Other than that it's fine. Personally I find the easiest roles to be mounted lancer, archer (mounted or foot), 2h sword mounted, 1h sword mounted, 2h sword on foot/1h sword on foot are sort of a toss up at the end there, each has their ups and downs and it depends what you're against. Those were listed pretty much in order from personal easiest to hardest, although even at the end it isn't that difficult unless you're 2h sword vs an archer and a mounted archer.

You just should learn to cook them!
If your character is rather good in archery you'll be the God of War! For example, I've began a new game (I have just a 6lvl-limited demo yet) just for arena fights. My character is archer and have archery skill about 110 and horse rchery 3. That's why when I'm foot or horse archer I make 2 or 3 kills per fight.
When you are being attacked by cavalry, prepare a shot and fire when enemy'll be ready to strike and won't be defended by shield. When you are being atacked by infantry with shield also prepare a shot and fire when your enemy will begin the strike and also won't be covered with shield.
I hope my explanations will help you, although they are suffering from my limited knowledge of English.

Off topic - that sig should be - "Are y'all gangsters?" - "No. We are Russians."

This might be impossible but I think it would be fun to play a jousting tourney against the local nobles, Henry the 8th almost died from a one on one jousting contest. Sure he killed some women but he really was a big fat tough guy. lol If I could use my own gear and go against some duke or baron and knock him off of his horse or maybe even get knocked off of mine that would be a fun gamble. I mean jousting with my lance.

I think it's too easy to become a recruit of Vaegir or Swadian army. It will be interesting if count or king order you to win some tournaments to get job.

I'm in the first city and man do I *suck* at the tournament fighting. Out of like seven matches so far, I've won a grand total of one. Just had my first knight draw and I couldn't get anywhere on the horse.

Note to self: Novice priests=bad fighters.

Well..... it might just be my imagination, but it seems to me that if you strafe sideways at the same time as walking forward when pursuing a mounted opponent, the said horseman seems somehow to begin spiralling inward in your strafe direction. It's only slight... but it seems to bring them in.

Anyone else fing this? Or am I loosing what few marbles I have left.

But if they don't immediately die from that, you're screwed.

No, thats not right.
You can abuse AI easily: if enemy has shield, wait till he is right next of you and aim him! he of course rises his shield. keep on aim, wait a second and a moment when he tries hit you shoot!!! it doesnt matter how long you keep aiming him if he is next of you because you hit anyway.

If he has Greatsword.. well then its even easier

Only problem comes when enemy has riders. if you dont have any Arcer points you are screwd.. There is still 5 changes!
1) Game crashes and you wont lost money =)
2) Wonder happens and your own teammates manage to win. not usual
3) Enemy bugs and walks all the time toward wall
and then there is real changes:
4) Order your friends out from horses and take theyr horse to yourself
5) Try shoot enemy horses they are easy to hit
