Tournaments that use spears

Hi

so iv done a fair share of tournaments to pulverise the enemy in there :3 but there is one weapon im bad at using and that the spear/lance and shield on foot, i just am so bad with the reach so i have adopted a new way of fighting them and thats to throw my shield and spear/lance to the ground get up in there face and punch them to death, the ai just doesnt know what to do and just trys to keep attacking but since im so close it doesnt do damage or anything, so yeah i beat the final round to death by smacking them with my fists xD

is there anything that you are all bad at or struggle with so you have developed your own unique way of dealing with it? ^_^

Yeah I hates it too. Shield bash into overhead stab is the best I can do. It's bad when you're in a new game nad have no armor though, because you'll take more damage then the tier 5 armored unit you have to fight against. Once you have some armor it's easy, but time wasting, but then you don't need tourneys...I mean you never need them but whatever. I guess the special horses are still needed unless you get one from marriage. Never seen a special horse drop form battle though. I wonder if lords horses and gear are coded to not drop as I never got special armors either, that I know of.

lol I just trade stabs and hope his HP runs out before mine. The good news is that many of the NPCs don't seem to be much better at using a spear than I am.

If you are put into a 1v1 situation in a duel of spears... what you do is:

(1) tuck away or drop your spear
(2) bum rush the enemy
(3) button mash to throw punches

...and the worst and most humiliating thing for the spear, is that I'm not joking.

If you get into a spear fight in a tournament, it's a free opportunity to up some athletics. The spear is a hard weapon for a person to manage, and even worse for the AI to manage. Just sheate/drop weapon, rush in, throw punches. The enemy AI can't do anything, and you'll knock out an Imperial lord wearing 30+ torso armor, with about 50~100 punches and up at least +1 athletics in that fight alone.

That's how bad a condition the thrusting spears are in.

Put the shield away, circle your opponent and stay close, time stabs with his stabs so he leaves himself open. Remember the dmg is only really decent at the end of a thrust so look away slightly then home in so your spear ends up travelling further before hitting. Never really had trouble with tourneys

I'm just stabbing them while moving back. In 90% cases it works perfectly. If i'm fighting another spearmen i add moves to the sides to this cause it's easy to dodge that way.

Try this: Hold W and E so you are basically running circles around your opponent, then turn and use high attack and aim for his head. It's guaranteed win even with low athletics and against lords, but it might take a bit of practice and time.

Used to hate two handed duels without auto block, but same tactic minor difference: you turn around and flee, he'll chase you, then u ready a swing and quickly turn as you release your swing, not a guaranteed win like spears since one misstep you might be dead, but it works...

I mean sure that works, but it's far easier to just strafe and attack. You should rarely move forward/backward after advancing on the enemy, if you keep moving to the right the AI will not be able to hit you while constantly being open.

In tournaments I put shield on back or if no archers around I even throw shield away to get more dmg by using both hands and more speed where spear shines (getting bigger bonus from your speed in comparison to other weapons) then I use double attacks from one side then switching to double attacks from opposite side learning AI has problem to "see" early you just changed your position.

Ofc if you do not have much athletics then any melee is a challenge but spear most I guess but it works both way if you have good athletics then with spear you are unreachable often with speed bonus first hit to the head means kill. Also mind the weight of your armor - it is not best for athletics to wear very heavy armor.

You're not actually bad at spear tournaments - spear tournaments are bad themselves. The AI doesn't do footwork properly and ends up poking you for 8 damage in the best scenario, and the player is stuck with overhead advancing thrusts that lords with 50 helmet armor don't care too much about. Whether you are to win or lose a match, it's gonna take a few decades.

I'm usually strafing and advancing at the time of thrust (W + D), so the enemy rarely (if ever) lands a hit and I get at least some speed bonus. It's safe, but still infuriatingly slow.

Is there literally anyone who finds spear &sheild combat in tournaments enjoyable ?

Whenever I get spear &sheild in tournaments I take long sigh. I think it would be more fun and quick if they removed the sheilds or limit spear&sheild combat to only horseback in tournaments.

I've invested a great many of my characters to mastering the spear, so spears are fun in tournaments where you could use some nice tricks like "feet stabbing."

Now, go to the actual field, and despair as literally none of your attacks make past the large shield a mountain bandit boss or forest bandit boss uses, and you basically spend many minutes just using the block+E spear push to down him with 3 damage, while doing nothing but blocks.

(ps) it's a great way to practice blocks, though. lol

Actually, aside from the cheesy exploit of circling around, the best way to engage enemies in the arena, is to aim for the feet with an extremely low angle low thrust to the legs and feet.

Gotta try that, thanks. The headthrusting routine is getting quite boring.

I like them, but I drop my shield.

Spear fights are the best. I usually go to Khuzait towns and join their tournaments for spear fights, plus the challenging AI combat setting makes it even better. What I do is that when they try to attack me, I get close to them so I block it instantly with my shield. Then you can fall back and penetrate him (you can move sideways while doing that). Also try to thrust from the bottom and move your mouse up to aim at this head. If he blocks, just shield bash and try again.

Trust me, once you get good at it, you will love it

Glad i'm not the only one !
I am having really good results by simply sheathing the shield and using the spear on 2hand mode.
Enemy attacks are easy to dodge by simply moving , most of them at least... And your spear on 2h does more dmg , so...... less hits needed.
Headshots ftw !

Never seen a special horse from battle either. Propably can't drop. I am curious if there's a list of special mounts that are actually in the game.
Not that pureblood or w/e. Best i've found is Asaligat from mongol tournaments ( or wife ).
Got a few more like the nahasawi , an imperial one which i'd have to check stash for name and a camel that was pretty ****ty , but the problem is , when those reach full speed they turn really really slow and your bow aim becomes ultra crap.
So their speed is mostly useless , Asaligat on the other hand , has the proper speed for my tastes and is better on most other stats.
It's basically an upgraded step war-horse.
