Tournament-secondary weapons

Whenever i get into the tournament and place 200 denars on myself they always give me a bow, bows are good...But if you dont have a secondary weapon its pratically useless to have it once the enemy gets close (which they do often) Bowmen should have some sort of knife secondary weapon

This has been brought up quite a few times, and most people were against it, including myself. The bow is all about range, so if an enemy closes the range with you, you should be at a dissadvantage. However, if you get your athletic up to...5 or 6, and archery up to 120ish, you can easily dominate in the arena with just a bow, even at close range. However, i think you should be able to drop one weapon to pick up another.

How about this? A special dagger for the bowman in tourneys that is slow and you can't block with. Kind of like a butcher knife, but slower.

If they were to give you a knife worse than the butcher knife, it would probably be worse than the bow at close range anyway...but i suppose it would make more sense than trying to fire arrows at someone who is 1 foot away from you.

The problem with the arena is that sometimes it can't be won no matter how badass your character is. If your team consist of 2 doublehanded-swordsmen against a foot and a mounted archer one of which is named Dranton, you can give up before it even starts.

I would be perfectly happy if both teams got the same set of weapons and horses, it would make quite sense.

i disagree. I have gone through the pain of having the `bad weapon`... i used to suck at lance... and close quarters bow. But it forces you to master all weaponry from first hand, and even more if you think you can bet on yourself... If it wasn`t from it, i would be bad with a lance, and when i have a bow, they could kill me... now, whoever gets myway gets a headshot halfway and my lance rarely misses. It merely encourages you to master all weaponry, and i think its faire : its a tournment, don;t use your own rules.

wrong. learn to jump and move... i had 2 men on me closequarters... managed for a two successive hedshots after some avoiding jumps. You just need to struggle harder man!

I agree with JARS, every battle can be won. With my main character, i spent less than a couple hours doing nothing but arena fighting, until my end record was 50-0(wins vs losses, not kills vs deaths). I like how some battles are stacked against you, as it forces you to learn how to compensate quickly, or die. But likewise, it is just as likely to be stacked in your favor as it is theirs. Every single arena battle is winnable, no exceptions. That's one thing i love about this game, it's not like a normal rpg where if you're lvl 10 against a lvl 20, you have absolutely zero chance of winning. Oh, and it is possible with a high athletics to dodge arrows. I stood about 20 feet away from an enemy archer (yes, it was one of those uber arena hero champions) and dodged until he was out of arrows without taking a hit. You just sidestep one direction, wait until he's about to fire, then change directions the instant he lets that arrow go and it will miss every single time. Now sure, there's going to be that random arrow headshot 1hit kill of doom that you get...but its rare. However, i still say you should be able to pick up weapons off of the dead.

I agree! Look at my situation...

2 vs 2, my companion is mounted, dies, and I'm an archer! Who's left? The other 2 from the opposite team, not-so-damaged, and one is a mounted lancer, while the other is an archer  Yeah, I know what you are thinking... I was thinking the same. I kept fighting, and I won. See? It's a matter of determination.

Thats right, I have gotten out of a few bad arena battles and live to tell about it.It's all about determination I think.

just do what i do in melle with a bow. if the guys got a shield wait for the moment he starts putting it down to attack then shoot you are almost guaranteed a headshot.if he's a two handed swords man he's slow to swing so just shoot him befor he gets the swing in. Thats how i can spare not to have a second wepon in the arena and outside it.you just need to know how to use the bow in melle effectivly and dangereusly.

Well, personally, my chars tends to be the knight type. Made to fight ahorse and use lance and others hand-to-hand weapons.

In character, my character would just refuse at playing a tournament on foot and using a bow... a cowardly weapon for peasants.

I don't see why tournament should force you to be a balanced warrior. And I find this close range head shot arrow of doom lame. It just looks and feels totally irrealistic and cheesy to see an archer standing just a few feets away from an armored guy with a shield holding a sword and not trying to draw his own melee weapon or run, just waiting to get the head shot.

Kinda unfair, eh?
Then a bowman would be ultimate tournie winner...
Vote NO for sec weps for Bowmen!
