As the battle progresses, check corpses for melee weapons you can pick up... I'll usually have something on me before the end, and I'll stick with the given bow until I must use melee. Or go get on a horse...
If you don't get jumped in the first 7 seconds, this works just fine.

You can tell your team to "Follow me" and they will stay next to you and protect you. I suggest puttiong some points into archery. Totally worth it.
Training archery, and putting tons of points in it. Doesn't do jack when you have several two handers in your face right out of the gate. But thank you very much for the F2 tip, I had no idea that your team took commands!! That is a game changer!

Oh and if you looked about 2 topics down you'll see pretty much the same post
http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,60316.0.html
and if you look at my poll "most asked question", you'll find that "Why dose the bow suck" genre has gotten 11 votes as the most asked question on the forum. just saying
Believe me, I tried searching several times before I posted this. And as for the "I hate the arena" post, it didn't seem to pertain to anything relevant so I skipped it.

if you`re that hell bent on fighting as a
retardknight/close-up-and-personal, go to swadian and nord arenas. I think there`s only one nord arena with bows. Personally I avoid them because I find the jousting lance and shield and practice axe combo extremely bufoonish
Maybe if you made an archer character things would be different. I have an archer commander who fights with bow and 2h sword. It`s a murderous combination.
If you're that hell bent on posting as a
retard... anyway, all of my characters are archers to an extent. Again, I am sure when I am level ajillion and have 9000 points in archery, it will be great. And guess what? The enemies you fight with bows will still fall as easy as they do now, which is pathetic, since they don't have weapons. With ~200 archery skill, you still aren't going to defend yourself against more than one melee opponent, especially two-handers, unless you get a headshot before you start getting trounced.
I always use bow/two-hander and some sort of lance/polearm as my weapons, I agree they are awesome. Doesn't help in the arena.

Well, sorry if this will sound rough, but this isn't a problem of tournament, but a problem of you
I, for one, can fare perfectly, because I have archery proficiency of 410 (archer character), two-handed proficiency of 130 (been using greataxe as sidearm) and one-handed proficiency of 210 (but I switched to morningstar - you gotta love it). This way I can win in almost all cases. Just because you're lousy with bow doesn't mean whole world will change to suit you
So, because you have some high level character that "can fare perfectly", it's not a problem? Your logic fails. This may sound rough, but this isn't a problem of my tournament tournament abilities, rather your problem of understanding a fundamental flaw with the arena/tournaments as-is. ALL missile opponents are a joke and fall faster than any others. I have fought enough tournaments to have the concept that all archers are easy meat down. The only time archers are somewhat effective is en masse. (Again, I am sure your 300 fully upgraded Rhodok Sharpshooters are murder).
And I am not lousy with a bow. It's just too bad this game does not have a multiplayer option, so I could acquaint you and your 410 points in archery to the speed with which a two handed sword tears it apart in the confines of the arena.
-BTW this is "The Apprentice Guild - Start Here" forum, perhaps there is another one better suited for your back patting?

Yes, what key you have bound for sheathing your weapon. I think its z by default but not sure. Keep in mind though that you can't block with fists against someone with a weapon so you just have to take the beating while attempting to get close enough to hit them. Which is hard because you have to be extremely close to hit them and the speed bonus on your attack tends to be reversed for fists so that moving into them while swinging results in a negative multiplier while moving away from them when swinging has a positive multiplier which means you have to run right up to them so that you are hugging them then while standing still or backing away swing your fists to get any significant amount of damage in. If you just run in swinging you will usually get very low numbers. Its really messed up if ya ask me.
As far as the tournaments go I enjoy the challenge of being given a bow and trying to survive with it.
The challenge is fine, when it's a challenge. It's when you are set upon immediately by multiple opponents with no support that it's no longer a challenge, as you can't even draw it back while you are getting manhandled.
Thank you all for the tips! I am off to try them out.
