Too many troop types?

I'm going to guess that I'm not the only one to have this problem, but if you have a solution please help :)
My max troop limit is somewhere over 200 right now, but I find it hard to get it over 120 or so due to too many different types of troops.  Its hard to try to upgrade a versatile army.  What should I do so I can have a large army without worrying about too many different types of troops to max out my list before I even hit 150?

Thanks for your input!

get a castle/ make achiles form an army and follow you and give him all the spam/ ctrl+x so you can upgrade that last troop that does not upgrade so you can free a slot

This should help you with your problem.  I had the same until I began following these guidelines.

Do not upgrade a troop type until all of that troop type is ready to upgrade.  It keeps the unit to 1 slot.  Otherwise, if you upgrade 1 or 2 of a unit, it will take up another slot, and will gain XP better then the non upgraded units.  What ends up happening is you having the majority of your manpower being lower tier troops with a few top tier troops who take up slots and eat the majority of XP.

So, lets say you run through Rhodok recruiting.  In a day you get 50 conscript's together.  Upgrade them together.  So when all 50 are ready to upgrade do so.  If you want Spearmen and XBows then you do 25 and 25.  Wait until all 25 are ready to upgrade, then do so.  This way you can actually reach 200 strong army.  Also, it is fun to see how many of a certain recruiting class makes it to elite levels.

As cadaverescu said, once you have a castle, now you have a place to stockpile all of those 1-2 top tier units you start to accumulate from defeating other Lords - Bandits - Merc's and from Sieges.  I try and not keep any unit in my party that has less than 5.  This way I can easily run by my castles and max out my 200+ man army for large engagements with an Enemy King or Dark Knights.

Achilles is a terrible commander. He's a fighter, not a commander.
