Sergeant at Arms
Hey everybody, might as well start out by saying i have a ****ty computer. When i there is a 300 man battle, (thats what i set my battle sizer to) in Mount and Blade original, with 10% detail, it goes about 5 FPS. yeah, life blows. I've done every trick google has to offer, that is besides overclocking (couldnt figure that out), but all those tricks only improved the FPS a little bit. So my question is..... will my computer have anywhere near enough horsepower to play warband if it can barely do a 300 man battle on original?

I am getting a new macbook pro tho, gunna install bootcamp on it (i have a macbook right now and medieval II works like a charm), do yall think that might have enough juice to play this game?

I play Warband with a somewhat good resolution and good graphics settings and my laptop is just barely able to run Medieval II on low/decent settings so I guess it'd work for you. I didn't play in any large battles in single player, though, but on 22nd's 222 slot server I don't get that much FPS lag.

I do however play the game with DirectX7 instead of 9 (or was it 10?) that most other people play with.

They did a fair bit to improve efficiency in the engine in Warbands, and the graphics are still very scaleable, so I imagine you'll be fine. Might even work better.

There are lots of settings you can adjust so I don't really think you should have too much of a problem. Get Warband!!

Get it!  The game runs smoother on Warband for me, and most and I've spoken to.

I think Warband runs faster for me than M&B; I can have larger battles in Warband, at fairly high graphical settings. It isn't the same for everyone though, I think there is a lot of variation depending on hardware and some people have reported difficulty getting acceptable frame rates in the technical problem thread. I think the best advice for olliewilliams is to try the demo (do cheats work on the demo? perhaps get a ton of charisma, or edit some files to get a huge party size limit, and try and have a large battle to test it. Or you could just do a custom battle).

By the way, 300 sounds like a huge battle size, I think M&B became totally unplayable for me at even ~250 or so. Still, if you really like to have it that high, try the demo before you buy Warband.

I second this.
I have Intel Celeron 1.7 MHz, video ATI Radeon 9550 (AGP) and 512 RAM. A real retro and WB runs better then 1.011.
Also DX 7 visually differs not so much then DX 9 like it was in M&B.

I third it, here are my specs. (OS is Vista 64 bit)

Processor:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz

Memory:
4094MB RAM

Hard Drive:
500 GB

Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250

I play warband on a computer with a below average video card, and otherwise average specs, and it runs pretty smoothly with the settings lowered. Using the lance from horseback is kinda hard... but I manage

I tried to play warband on a computer with 2 gigs of RAM, a slow processor, and a pretty crappy video card (Nvidia FX 5500), and I got 2-5 FPS.

So (kinda common sense), if your computer's crappy don't buy M&B:W. If it's below-average or better (like the computer in my first example), then you should be fine. 300 person battles would probably lag most computer by the way.

My ****ty laptop runs this game better than the original. It only really starts to get choppy when there's 50+ people in a server, but it's still very playable. That's in multiplayer, for some reason this doesn't happen in the single player.

alright, thanks everybody. i'm gunna give the demo a shot on both my ****ty PC (i can't remember the specs right now, i'm not home but i'll check when i get there) and then on my bootcamped macbook pro once i get it. i'll let yall know for future reference. BTW the tricks do help, such as gamebooster (helped a lot) and turning off some of your startup processes.

IT WORKED! it runs BETTER than original M&B. i'm in the process of buying it now. i do find the soldier ordering system quite confusing, and there are some problems that piss me off (50 days to build a messenger post?) so yeah is there a mod out there that just tweaks it? BUT i love it anyways. Thanks for helping me out yall

If you want to change improvement build times, I recommend a utility called TweakMB. Check my sig for the link. This small program allows you to customise many features, without having to trawl through the text files.
