To many spears in captain mode

It's kind of annoying that almost every unit has access to polearm, spears and pikes. Cavalry have almost no value on the battlefield when everything is capable of being a hard counter.

I get that cavalry were OP in warband and I am really happy with the changes to anti cav, just think it needs toning down a bit. I'd be happy with archers having no access to spears and it would encourage more teamwork. Archers shouldnt be able to stand in the open by themselves without being punished.

Agree with the archers. Archers out in the open should be fresh meat for a cav charge. Unfortunately since the Cav Nerf of Novemeber the unit type has not recovered.

Yeh and the team that uses more cav tends to lose in my experience
Because people don't play it right. They just ride in circles looking for couched lance charges instead of actually joining fights. If they knew when to switch to one handed weapons, charge into the middle of mosh pits and spam downward swings into the pile of enemies they'd find they could be far more useful. Its extremely difficult for infantry to hit someone on an armored horse in a tightly packed melee without any room to swing, meanwhile you're constantly getting bumped, blocked or disrupted by the horses moving around.

use them for shock attacks, hit & run and chasing vulnerable units like archers
they are way better than warband cavalry, the're bashing through everyone without stopping

spears should always be used in open battles, it's the most used weapon because it's the most versatile weapon:
-it can be used with a shield (shield walls)
-stopping cavalry
-u can throw it and pull ur sword any time
-it's a light weapon

why the heck would a soldier carries only a sword, while a spear could be in use to have better defense !!

"no more spears nerfing"

My main beef is with archers having access to them, I understand infantry having them. If an archer unit decides to stray away from the main force, they should get demolished by cav in melee not the other way round.

I understand hammer and anvil tactics and I know to engage infantry while they're already in comabt with other infantry. But skirmershers should not be able to put up a fight, cavalry and archer in CQB should be a death sentence for them.

Well AI with spears are pretty garbage but I do understand what you're getting at.

I think the problem really is the dead eye accuracy and awareness of AI archers. I feel confident having my cav perfectly flank archers while they're looking the opposite way. Then, I order the charge only to have the archers turn around and dead eye me and my cav, stunning them and ridding either their couch or wind up thrust is very annoying.

The issue is that cav AI is absolute dog****.

Infantry and archers are actually fine but cavalry AI is so bad that it feels like inf and archers are too powerful in captain.

I agree, cavalry low level AI needs improvement, they should be able to thrust enemies while they are following the leader. And they should charge in straight parallel lines to the direction the leader is looking to when charge is ordered, then they should regroup at a given position or where the regiment flag is.

Archers are too cold blooded and skilled for my taste too. An easy improvement would be to increase the time it takes to put away the current weapon and to draw another. Then there is the option to drop the weapon in a hurry. Also, you can't pack a polearm in your back so you should drop it if you want to wield another weapon.

Cavalry can't survive prolonged melee. They are only about 8 units versus around 20 in most engagements. The charge is (and should be) their main strength.
