Titles and Epithets

I hope epithets is the right word. basically, I would really like it if my character could pick up a nickname, like "Dagnar the Strong" or "He Man, Master of the Universe".
note on names: my character isn't named "Daegir"... but he could be.

the nicknames could be based on certain ingame actions. for example, if you change sides often between Vaegir and Swabian, you could pick up a name like "Daegir the Fickle", "Daegir the Mercenary", or in extreme cases, "Daegir the Treacherous". if you regularly interfere with fights between peasants and bandits, you could find yourself being called "daegir the Chivalrous" or "Daegir, Defender of the Innocent" or "Daegir the White Knight." if you fight against long odds and win regularly, you could be "Daegir the Brave" or "Daegir the Unbeatable".
or if you use primarily blunt weapons, you could be called "the Heavy Handed". if you have a suit of all black armor, you could be "Daegir the Black" or "Daegir the Dark Knight". and if you get beaten often, you could be "Daegir the Unlucky" or "Daegir the Unworthy" or "Daegir Who Fights like a Woman".
some names could be based on skills. if you have high tactics and intelligence, you could become "Daegir the Cunning".

you could have prefixes, too. a perennial merchant could be "Honest Daegir." I can't think of any other prefixes, but I'm sure you guys can.

Oh, and as a sidenote, naming your weapons and your Horses would be awesome. Awesome to the max.

EDIT: I particularly like the thought of "Honest Daegir Who Fights Like a Woman" :D

The problem would be to discenr a pattern in the player's action. And if the character's name already included such a nickname, the result would get odd (Gor the Strong the Unbeatable... quite stupid-sounding isn't it ?)

Addition to the post : maybe a checkable box in character creation 'does this character have a suffixe in his/her name' would be in order.
Or an obivoius warning not ot add them to your character's name.
Or a yes/no answer about suffixes on character creation

Sounds like the suffix system from Rome or Medieval total war. Resist enough bribes and you become the honest, kill enough and you become the conqueror.

Not only this but I'd like to see traditional titles as well. As in Knight, Lord, Baron, Duke etc.

It would give the player a purpose other than just bashing opponents(fun as it is). I'd like to see opportunities to grab some power for yourself and perhaps even carve out a little empire of your own.

I also second the previous idea of marriage and making your own little "clan". A bit like Europa 1400 etc.

This is supposed to be mideaval after all(close resemblance that is). And those things were basically the mainstay of that era. Everything was more personal then. It was blood feuds, power grabbing etc.

Now I fully realise that this isn't possible for 1.0 but if we are talking long term ideas, this is what I'd like to see. This would allow players to make their own little story rather than being handheld.

I see this as a nice mixture of games like Merchant Prince, Europa 1400 and something new altogether.

And. If these ideas (potentially) get implemented witha potential multiplayer(v 2.0 perhaps). Then you could make a War of the Roses type of scenario. Instead of just 2 factions, why not dozens of small duchies/baronies etc fighting for the overall crown in a civil war type of scenario.

Possibilties are endless. But in the end the choice is up to the designers of course. I registered the game today, possibly i'll keep on supporting the game for a good time :).

The title system might be a pain to implement for some of the reasons outlined above, but it would be a pretty cool feature. I love when games somehow *know* things about your character that you wouldn't expect. Like, in Metal Gear Solid for the original PS, the psychic guy you fought had some line where he would talk about how cautious or reckless you were, depending on how often you saved. I don't know. It's just fun when the computer picks up on patterns that you totally wouldn't expect it to.

I just figured out a way to work around the 'laready in player chosen name' issue :

Have the name presented with three boxes :

Title ex : Lord
Name ex : Mandar
Surname ex : the Mad

Of course only yhr name is mandatory and must be filled. If the others are filled, they whould not change.
