Tired of managing the lords

I have played Mount and Blade a long time, I got Warband the day it came out. I am just getting to owning a kingdom. I was bored with it but after a long break I'm enjoying it again.

During peace time hardly any one shows up to my feasts. The feast bugs 50% of the time, ending instantly, even in peace time. I can barely get rep up at all. Any thing I do gives negative rep. I can't indite lords that hate me for treason without pissing off the whole kingdom, lords that don't have land hate me more every week. I can't declare war because I lose rep. No one attacks me. I can't recruit lords that that love me because I have to give them land right away or they will soon hate me. Any land I gain I siege myself and giving it to lords that are low negative or just above lowers my rep with everyone else.

My two companions that I made lords both had 50+ rep before I made them lords, one is now at 9 and the other at 22.  Plus, I can't see who thinks what of me or who posses what fief. This management thing isn't well thought out and honestly it is annoying. I realize that kissing vessels asses was part of the life, but this is too extreme and not that much fun. At least give us good interface tools to manage my kingdom. Let us poll the lords to see who gets what fief from the capital. When the popular candidate is chosen, let all that voted for him get positive rep. Also, if someone owns a damn city, they shouldn't support themselves for a fief every damn time when there are landless lords.

Some other tips as, that work in native without mods:

1. Since you said you have your own Kingdom, make sure you're marshall, and start your feast.
2. After a few days you'll probably have all the lords there that will show up, and hopefully none that are there are leaving yet.
3. Start a campaign, and the feast ends with a nice 2 or so boost to relation for all lords presently at the party.
4. End campagin, patrol a few days, maybe gather some food for your larder, and repeat.

It's pretty easy to gain 3 rep each week or so with all the lords that will at least bother to come to your feasts this way during peacetime, and get them built up for the inevitable drops that will happen when you go back to war and are awarding fiefs.

Another tip, swear in vassals that are related to one another as you often get increases for the whole family when you award anything to any of them.

The same is true of companions promoted to lords who like each other, and have a personality match. Consider promoting them in matched pairs. The converse is also true of companions who have/had a personality conflict and are promoted.

Hope that helps a little.

1. Get Diplomacy
2. In the future take a minimum amount of Lords. I myself never get more than 7, preferably 4 or 5. Only take the ones with the best personalities and highest renown. Most lords are useless assholes and the more you have the faster relations will drop all over the place.

All good advice, but as for #3, you should also speak to each lord once per day during the feast for +1 relation boost.  I try to keep the feast going for as long as possible to eke out as much positive relation with all the lords who are there.  Then, when the feast ends, you get the further +2 with each lord there (plus some renown as well).

I don't remember when it was, but one patch a while ago helped IMMENSELY with feasts etc, i want to say it was last october.  I could give you some number like 1.313 but I'd be making it up.  If you haven't updated any patches recently you may want to.

The last game I had my own kingdom I had over 50 lords at my command, didn't have too much of a problem until the last few days of conquest I just didnt assign any new fiefs.  I would always end the feasts ASAP, as i always had WAY more lords showup than I could talk to, so getting tons of feasts in was a priority.  As long as they are 0 (or above 0 I forget which) relation they should showup.

I second the taking of few lords; think of your state evolving from Feudal Monarchy to either some form of republic, an absolute or constitutional monarchy, or just otherwise doing away with feudalism; it's very clear that it only benefits a few people, and the many lords you control are likely to only look out for their own interests and be unanswerable to you. In gameplay terms, it's often a hassle to micromanage more than ten, although as Holger pointed out, it is possible to do it with a huge amount of vassals - although I'm amazed to see it done with so many. Seriously? 50? I feel like you earn a prize or something.

I stick with 5-6 lords, and only one is not a companion. Just promote Baheshtur, Rolf, Lezalit and Firentis and keep them at 100. For other lords, I recommend Tirida Noyan, Boyar Meriga, Emir Hamezan and Count Talbar. Try to get all your lords to 100 and Calradia is yours

Why do you recommend specific lords?  Aren't many lord personalities randomized every game?

I think that is exactly his problem, he cant get them to 100 and keep them there

Well, the lords I mentioned were useful and had good personalities in my games.

LOL freakin deidara. Yeah lord personalities are randomized per new game as said by Josie Noyan.

Your best friend in 1 game can be a total debauched prick in another game.

I'm not sure how randomized some lord's personalities are; I've consistently found Count Grainwad to be good-natured, and I think he was upstanding once.

Some of the older lords remain the same and some are randomized.  Then their sons have a certain chance to inherit their father's personalities; otherwise, they are randomized.

I will try to do a search for the exact quote.

Ah, here it is:

I believe it has something to do with the randomized lord personalities at game start. Those factions may have had an overwhelming number of debauched, etc, lords so their relations with their lieges fell over time. If they have been getting beat up in battles this would accelerate the process. I've not tracked down solid evidence of this yet in the scripts, but it looks plausible.

As for fixes, I do not know of any.
I was under the impression that all factions had an equal number of honorable, debauched, etc lords from the start. If what you say is true (and I can't say it isn't), that would put a premium on speaking with every lord on the map prior to choosing a faction to join. It's funny though, because as my honor goes up, I seem to increase relations with equal numbers of lords from each faction.

The first seven lords of each faction are equally distributed honorable, debauched, etc. After that, the next 4 older lords are have their personalities randomly selected. After those are selected younger lords (sons of the first seven and the other 4 older lords...so 9 of the lords total) have a 50% chance of having their father's personality and a 50% chance of having a random personality. If the 4 randomly assigned older lords are mostly dishonorable, then there's a large chance that the crop of their kids will be too.

Randomizing lord personalities in this way helps each game flow differently, I'd say. Some games you've a bunch of honor-bound loyalists, and others backstabbers who hop all over Calradia before ending up with the player or a trip to the beyond.

I don't know where Caba`drin made his original post, but he's quoting himself in this thread: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,180534.msg4331264.html#msg4331264

LOL! Meriga is an ******* in every game I've ever played...

Seriously though, taking all of Calradia with a half-dozen vassals is easy enough. The result is a continent overrun by bandits, if that matters to anyone. My problem has always been not having enough vassals. I end up "owning" so much by myself and not enough to help me manage and patrol.

Same here sir, Meriga is a total douche bag. I woulda stormed Rivacheg and destroyed him as planned but surprisingly, he turned traitor on Yaroglek and declared for me instead, so I let him join me as a term of his surrender. Big mistake, now he *****es about everything and he wants everything!

I had Meriga in my kingdom.  He's of use if you have good relations with him.  He fought with me, came along when I commanded him.

Aye, that he did too. He is and still quite a faithful subject! Turns up to all my sieges when summoned, what a good boy! But his constant whining is getting to me!

I think Meriga is one of those lords who always have a quarrelsome personality, which means he's always got -3 relation to the PC right from the start of the game.  Belir Noyan's another one, as is Emir Atis.  I think those are the only 3 who always have towns though.  I know Haringoth's another one, but he only has a castle, so I don't have to worry about sucking up to him.
