If you have problems when being on foot against horseman. LOOK HERE!

1. Avoid getting in the way of the horse cos' you will receive charge dmg and will then be hit on the ground (you cannot block while getting up)

2. Avoid couched lances!! (couched is when they hold it to their side not pulling it back aiming at you) This will do ultimate dmg to you, especially when they are going at 600 mph  They are one hit killers!!

3. Swing for the person to deal more dmg to him and not kill his horse. (you could use it l8er)

4.Since horses move so fast you normally only get one chance per run(when the enemy makes an attack at you) to swing at them. If you have a spear or thrusting weapon, you should be on a horse, aim for the head to do the most dmg. Back to the first sentence. On your battle ground, find a river to walk in (if there isn't one, press tab to retreat and then select 'attack the enemy' to get a new landscape) when in the water, the horses will be slowed to trotting speed where you can slaughter horseman by repeatedly swinging at them, or stabbing them.

5. If all else fails use common sense and your own tactic or hire knights of your own to the work for you. Ranged works aswell, aslong as they don't have a shield.

6. Oh yeah, horses cannot get up steep slopes, such as mountains, but you can (if u can't, run up them sideways, diagonal) stand at the top and fire down arrows or bolts or lob axes at them. This normally works.

If you need help when being on a horse. LOOK HERE!

1. Polearms are handy on horses, if you know what your doing  All polearms (i think) can be couched. Couching is where you center all your power on the end of your weapon using your horse's speed. The faster you go, the more dmg you do. DO NOT PRESS THE ATTACK BUTTON!! Just get your horse to a full gallop and your guy will lower his lance or staff or poleaxe. Whatever. Just line it up with the enemy's head. You can do over 200 dmg with good lances and spears this way if you have a good horse. (get your riding skill up) Warhorses are a good choice, they need 4 riding.

2. When using swords or axes. Whatever side you are looking is where your guy will swing. e.g. looking right will swing right when you click and let go. Again, the faster you go, the more dmg you will do when you swing. Up to 80 with a good axe and a saddle horse at full gallop!

3. DON'T JUMP OFF CLIFFS WITH HORSES, YOU WILL CRIPPLE THEM!! IT'S FUN BUT IT KILLS YOUR HORSE.

I can't really think of anything else at the moment.

Tell me if I could add anything!
Or look at the other topics!

Oddly enough i dissagree with this. I've spent a good bit of time trying to solo large groups of cavalry while on foot using nothing but melee and not exploiting the AI. If you've got 10 or so mounted units charging you in a big group, its best to step infront of one and let them knock you over. They rest will pass you by, and you can get up haven taken very little damage if any with the group almost at a complete stop behind you(easy pickins). If you don't do this, you're most likely going to get clipped, knocking your defenses away for a second, just long enough for the others to get a good hit in or two. Also, the AI almost never hits you when you're on the ground (provided they're mounted of course), and by the time they can hit you, you can have your shield up.

Yep, only 1 handed ones. I'm pretty sure that poleaxe is 2H.

When fighting cav, always start the swing a bit earlier than if fighting a footmen. Time it so that you hit them before they get a chance to hit you.

When timed right, a footman always gets a hit in first.

I find horizontal slashing attacks to be the best against cav when on foot.

Also, going for the rider will often mean he hits you first. Aim for the horse if you have a sword or axe.

Only if you have a polearm or missile does it seem useful to go for rider and steal a horse.

When in doubt, seek higher ground. They'll be stuck when trying to climb and you can kill the horse and make them duel you one at a time.

Heh i went and modified the "Polehammer" to be 1 handed so it can be couched , look's awsome hitting them with this huge peice of concrete. Especially against calvalry.

I think I will do a little threadnecromancy here.

Help in regards to using swords, axes and other weapons you swing while in the saddle.

I have noticed something really evil while running around getting beaten up by enemy cavalry. They always run me down and make their swing as I fall. That is unblockable and I have gotten knocked out more times than I care to mention because of that.
Meanwhile my own mounted swordattacks have been woefully inadiquate, that the enemy infantry have been blocking the attacks too often.

Well what do you do? The natural thing, I copied the enemy as any sensible person would. Just like I did when I got lanced the first time (had been here then).

Now I swing back my sword in good time (not extreme mind you). Then aim the horse a little to the left of my target if I swing the sword right. That way I can strike a man on his shoulder with the horse, then give him a nasty cut with the sword.
It is really an effective attack, and it is easier to control than a couched lance attack (though not as certain to kill). In a recent game I killed 5 fresh bandits in a single pass by using this method.

you can control how high you swing your weapon with your mouse.
if you position your view so that you are looking at the ground, you'll swing very low [not unlike a polo swing].
as such, if you look at the sky, you'll swing in an arc stemming from your shoulder [can't swing above your shoulder (that i've noticed)]

I'm not certain what you meant with this....

Good advise of course, but I already knew that. I jsut pointed out you do an unblockable attack on horse that isn't a couched lance attack.

I like doing this against mounted groups..

My character is a horseman with high agility/powerstrike/ironskin. when I lose my horse against mounted troops, I'll jump slash at the enemy - that gives me a fresh horse nearly everytime.

I bought myself this 2 Handed Polehammer (i think its that one) Does blunt damage and that rocks.

Gets a full load of prisoners everytime

I need some advise. When ever I face foot troops, and I have mounted troops. Alot of the times, my mounted troops gets destroyed? They always get swamped and then just massacred. hmmm, maybe it's cause the infantry outnumbers my mounted? or do infantry kill mounted troops really easily?

i have a full army of sawdian kingths and and they take out emany foot men easy even if we are out number usally i just sit back and watch and try to get long distance shot

Personally my favorite tactic for foot against horsemen is to use javelins/jarid against them. If you practice a bit you can time your move perfectly as to side step the horse's charge and lodge a few feet of skewer into their throat. Takes even knights off their horse with ease.

I'm an infantry guy personally, but typically in M&B you need cavalry to survive. I hope eventually the AI gets smart enough to handle horsemen fairly well.

I actually find killing cavalry not very difficult. All I do is dismount any mounted units i may have, gather them up all together in a single spot inorder to form a tight and packed circle. Then the enemy cavalry charges and get stuck in this circle while the infantry units just hack away at the horseman killing them all.

If youre charged by a swordsman on a horse, get him coming at you in a direct straight line and set your sword/polearm to thrust. He can only swing left and right when moving at speed. Jump lateish, avoiding the impact of the horse, and stab him in the face.
