Tips for taking Almerra Castle?

don't go further than the outer wall. Just clear them with archers. If they're gonna be cheap enough to hide behind a maze, be 'cheap' on your side with a straightforward arrowstorm.

Trimaran,

Congrats.  Almerra Castle is a very good castle.

...when enemies get inside - they get spammed with arrows from all sides (you should keep archers). Also that wooden design and placement on map are great.

Tried auto calc this time around....

187 dead or wounded on my end and only killed 5 of them... hardly an improvement over actually fighting the battle seeing as how there was only 32 of them in there to start with.
If that's the case then why didn't you just talking to the commander of the fort and demand a surrender? Against such odds they will always do that and it will save you a lot of trouble.

Yes, thats a good idea. Lets say they have 75 and you have twice as much, they usually surrender. I got Jelkala yesterday like that. They had 75 and I had 98.

@tashim72,
Yes it is great looking castle. But no one is besieging it yet  so no fun for me at the moment. All my villages are getting razed and no one cares about almerra or jelkala. Lords raid and run away when they see me.  I hate that!!!

Or when a lord starts raiding one of your villages, you chase him off only to have a different lord start raiding a different village... you go to chase him off and the first guy is back at the first village.... Yeah I know obvious solution is attack them both and try to capture them but that turns a simple day where I could be out raiding their villages into rl hours fighting off lords that are hardly worth the trouble as it is always the ones with the tiny army...

There is another that I hate taking... Though I forget where it is. There is a archer tower on a hill that jets fairly far out from the wall that allows them a clear shot at your backside...

Idbeles Castle is the one you are talking about. Very lovely to have. Annoying to besiege. The trick is to position yourself in the left corner up the cliff, if you stand there none can hit you. Then you can quickly pop from behind it, fire a shot, and step back in the cover. But even then it's a hard castle to besiege.

I personally am not too impressed with Almerra Castle, simply because your archers on the surrounding walls barely have any cover. The first few waves will be slaughtered, but as the battle continues the enemy archers that make it into the courtyard will slowly clear the surrounding walls of your ranged troops. Once that is done, the castle is not really better than others.

Every time I try that they just tell me that they can hold out for whatever time...

Current example: Tevarin castle with Count Mirchaud as the lead defender.

They have 25 troops left in garrison + 5 lords with no party so a total of 30 troops.... I am sitting on their doorstep with 180 troops (140 fit for battle) and they still just say they can hold out.... Needless to say I took the castle... 0 casualties on my end and Mirchaud is now my prisoner...

With that situation I can only geuss the amount of lords has something to do with the odds of surrender. But I don't know the formula for it.

Well either way I just wish the Swadians would die off.... they hold no lands but have been roaming around for weeks and Isolla is beginning to annoy me  :???:

Thats what I had been doin for weeks... problem is they are just faster than me. I cannot cut my forces by too much because the parties are... well rather large but I cannot catch them with more than 140 men in tow...

I did manage to catch them eventually by swapping out a few of my infantry for cav though. I have a new theory on these lengthy bits before a faction is destroyed. I am almost certain that you have to end their campaign by defeating or capturing the marshal or whatever.

That is the only thing I can think of at this point, I have deposed 4 kings in this game now 2 went down as soon as the last castle fell despite their having large armies roaming about yet and the other two dragged on until some apparently critical battle.

Anyway Isolla is in power now... on to find lethwin or dustin.
