Tiny "mini" MMORPG...

So I was thinking of advertising this little "mini"-MMORPG once more...more officially than my signature alone :razz:

It's a tiny, free, "mini"-MMORPG that's been around for a bit and could use some more players as it's not a well-advertised game to begin with...I guess it's partially cause of saving the trouble of getting pointless remarks about "3d-GFX nerds" and the like...

Now, it's graphics are old and it can take a while to get into, so if you're into "latest 3d graphics" or are really inpatient by nature then this game is not for you. It saves a lot of time and grief for everyone by stating this immediately :smile:

If you're the patient, "gfx ain't everything" kind of guy however, and not a troublemaker, then feel free to visit...

Is this any match to good old Ultima Online? Oh and the grafic is terrible wheres the top notch 3d grafic?!?! :twisted:

There is no latest 3d. I said so already. No need to even come and take a look if looks is all that's on your mind :smile:

screenzorz? I could't find anything visual on the site, although I have checked it out before (due to your sig)

*takes a good laugh* that was ironic! :wink:

A few centuries ago Ice covered most of the known world in Thule. Monsters roamed the land at night. At daylight brave Fighters and Druids set out from Tunsberg to keep their hometown a haven, free of the terrors that haunted the lands.
Once I've set out from Tønsberg, and am free of the terrors that haunt the comp I'm at now (game crashes instantly... lots'a games do that here), I might give it a try.

(and yeh, this world seems pretty much covered in ice as well)

it's not THAT ugly (comparing to things like urw or so on) as in its isometric and has animated characters and environments but man the gameplay... yuck. there are certainly games that are more fun to play out there, at least, for me.

give it a try i suppose, but i didn't have much fun.

Bah, forget it. I've realized that I've simply been looking in the wrong places...not gonna do the mistake and ask latest generation gamers again.

And no, I have no screenies. Maybe it was a good thing that I didn't though.

Next stop - old-school forums.

I wouldn't classify myself as a "latest generation gamer" being that I have been gaming since nintendo, and can enjoy games with very outdated graphics. I just didn't enjoy the gameplay of thule though. I ran around for a while, found some weapon in a chest, killed a monster, and fought some other guy who killed me and responded with "lol loser!" Obvously, that's not a flaw in game design, but the community of players seemed pretty juevenille, which was about the last straw.

When it came down to it, the graphics were just fine for me. But it was the gameplay that seemed to be lacking.

That's what I mean with why I shouldn't have asked here...

Your half hour visit sure must've taught you everything there is to the game. We may have a couple of doubtful players, but don't come here and judge the entire community based on one bad apple with your 30 minute expertice, please.

You failed to fulfill the "patience" requirement which I clearly stated in the beginning was required. But don't worry. You have no idea how many players simply log in, take a glance, then leave with "I hate this game" comments, without having even taken a closer look at it.

Then again, that's the kind of players that are not exactly welcome anyway. We only want players who actually KNOW how to look at content instead of just the cover.

Then, if you are really serious about advertising this game, maybe you should try to explain to us what exactlly makes Thule so special. I mean, why is it any better than any Ragnarok-like MMORPG crap? How is the gameplay? What is there for the player besides the old MMORPG habitual:

- click, click, click to kill monster;
- repeat that 500 times to gain level and raise numbers;
- get gold, buy ****;
- collect stuff, sell then, buy other ****;
- engage in "click, click, click" style battles with other players;
- chat with other players;

I am yet to play any MMORPG that can offer more than that, although sincerelly, I never played that many. But the ones tried were so disapointing that now I not very willing to waste my time in this kind of game.

I am afraid there is something to do with graphics when playing a game that adds to it's gameplay. The graphics have to present how to play the game and make it clear.

3D games are usually the most clear with what you have to do because they are the most realistic. For me thule was unclear, slow and uninvolving.

Its quite interesting when something like this comes along. The Fanboy bashes the public because they dont like the game. Who is the game aimed at if not the public? If its aimed at the public you should take THEIR advice to improve the game. The audience never gives WRONG feedback dimwit.

No wonder this game has no players.

Well, fine then...more descriptions then:

The game has no click to-slash-once combat...melee is automatic anyway...magic is manual however...

The experience farming is something unique in this game that pretty much no other game has...it does involve killing mobs to an extent but that's only half of it...

PvP is currently disabled, but if there are enough players interested to pvp, it will be enabled again hopefully...and the PvP is slightly more tactical...in fact all combat is bit more tactical than your average MMORPG...but also slower...top ranking players won't be able to slash down top-ranking creatures in 5 seconds for instance. In fact a rare few foes can take down the strongest player 1 on 1 if you don't know what you're doing...usually people have to work together to take'm down.

Bunch of quests...the usual different places to check out...lots of puzzles and actual brainwork that needs to be used in order to pass areas safely. Something that lots of the modern, standard MMORPG's lack.

Since it's a small game and more personal, the admins can constantly host special events to entertain those online. (Live Quests or just mad Killfests)

The game isn't really of the "carebear" kind either. If you die and no one retrieves your stuff, you'll lose'm. Simple as that. Same with PvP. The loser will pretty much lose all his stuff, and the winner can choose to take it all, (problematic if you have grievers PvP'ing) so the stakes are rather high in this regard and thus requires certain...skill.

Don't expect it to have things like "resource gathering", "crafting", "building" and so on. Engine is really old after all and it was made by a handful of people only with no massive amounts of money backing them up.

Classes - you choose from 3 classes, one fighter class, one spellcasting class and one fighter/speller hybrid that's more of a jack-of-all-trader. Each class can then advance further to either an arch class (specialization basically, well you know what it is), or start over as a completely new class which in the end is overall better than any other class.

And, well, what else is there? Hardly any MMORPG has something else apart from exploring the world as much as possible, get gold and items etc. That's all here as well. Only difference is that you'll have to work your way up if you want to see other places and do harder quests and so on.

That good enough then?

Funny you should say this...because when it originally ran 4 or so years ago, it was impossible to get online at times cause the server was full...and you had to wait sometimes for hours in a queue...

Course, it was somewhat more advertised back then...

Ok, i just tried it out for a bit. Now, i don't care who you are or what you say, a games' initial presentation speaks quite loudly. First impression being all important and all that, you know. I don't care that the graphics suck, but it was just frustrating. Apparently i entered a dark area, and lit my torch...while it was still in my inventory!!! So then i try to equip it, and couldn't figure out how to do that. Then i clicked on what i guess was my money, and it picked up a stack which followed my cursor and i could not put it back down. All of the ingame data is just thrown onto the main screen...imagine M&B with all the inventory/stat screen/party window up and scattered all about the screen at all times *ick*. So my questions is, what makes this game good? You said you have to give it a chance, but what is unique about it? It seems people often rave about how good some 2D rpg is, and that you just have to "ignore" the dated graphics...but when it comes right down to it, 90% of the time those poor looking 2D rpg's have less content and fewer features to keep it interesting than high budget 3D titles with awesome graphics. Its as if people take pity on these games and even though they are inferior in every single conceivable aspect, they love them anyway.

Edit: Well, just tried it out again for the heck of it. Someone came up to me and offered to help without me even having to ask. While that was very nice of him, i don't think it really saves a terrible game. Oh...i have to hold alt + left click to move an item around in my inventory, gosh...why oh why didn't i think of that... *sigh* I did a couple of quests and they were both...horrid. "Go here and get me this item, then listen to my poorly written response as i give you a lame award". Idk, sorry skyrage, i don't mean to be so harsh in my review. If you like the game and it suits you, thats great. But i just got a headache trying to play it and can't see how it is better than say...WoW or EQ in any way aside for not having a monthly fee.

Well, DaLagga, I do enjoy reading your comparison of a game made many years ago by a handful of people in their spare time to a new MMORPG made by a multimillion company.

I mean that really makes such a difference, don't you think? I suppose apples and oranges are the same as well to you?
