Right. This game was announced a few days ago, and it tickled my interest a little. Basically; it's a squad-based first-person shooter, and it's set in the Command & Conquer universe. I'm not too clear on the plot, but it probably involves quasi-religious cyborg terrorist organizations and metallic blue aliens. At least that's what the strategy games did.

Judging from the trailer, and the fact that it was announced as a "squad-based" shooter, I at first guessed it might be something in the vein of Brothers in Arms or that one Star Wars game where you controlled a four-man squad of clones SWAT -style. But according to a preview on IGN I just stumbled upon, the game plays roughly like this:

While playing -  that is, presumably running around, shooting Covenant... uhhh, I mean "Scrin" -aliens and cyborg terrorists; you'll come by so-called "Tiberium Spikes", that you somehow capture. I don't know if you have to do something complicated to capture it, or if you just hang around the general area while a bar fills up, Battlefield -style; but once you have captured one, you may call in one squad of infantry or vehicles. (Presumably.) You'll be controlling up to four squads at once in this fashion. Soldiers are, apparently, rather expendable in nature. Should a squad get completely wiped out, you'll just call in another one with very little circumstance. Also; in stead of picking up multiple weapons, you have one super-gun that can shoot absolutely everything from bullets to anti-air projectiles.

And... that's about all I know. I don't know if the game maps will be linear affairs where you run from point A to B while shooting things Call of Duty -style, or if the maps will be open and free-form Operation Flashpoint/Dynasty Warriors -style. I do know the game will have a multiplayer mode, but whether or not this plays like the singleplayer mode with calling down AI squads and so on, (Awesome.), or a more arcade-y every teammember for himself Capture the Flag -thingy, (Not awesome.), I have no idea.

Apparently, it's going to be released approx. Q3 this year. I'm not sure for what platforms, but I'm guessing PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and all the usual stuff.

Do y'know, the first thing that came into my head when reading this was Republic Commando. Some similarities there... multi-func gun and squad control n' all.

Renegades multiplayer was awesome, I need to find my copy and reinstall it and get the new Red Alert: A path Beyond mod for it.

A Path Beyond is stand alone.
That must have changed, cause when it was first around it claimed to be stand alone but it said it needed the Renegade core files when I tried to install it.

The thing I liked about Renegade single player was that you would consistently blow up different types of ****, not "capture Spike now pleese".
