Three(+) stupid questions regarding the new version.

I'm making my confused face right now. I took some time adjusting myself to the new stuff - took me ages, for example, to work out how you hire new soldiers. Turned out I had ignored those soldiers standing in the tavern all along. I thought they were just NPCs who were going to give me the "Mind your manners within the city walls etc." - line. So due to the fact that it's almost a whole new game right now, I felt it best to clump my questions together in one thread rather than disperse them all over the several threads filled with the usual "Worship Amargan!"-jokes that were funny the first 10 times.

Mmmright. So, to begin with my biggest question: How do you ally yourself with the factions? Do you have to just stumble about the map until you're at a random point asked by a faction to join them? At the entire beginning of the game, several factions asked me in this fashion, but I turned them down as I preferred spending the early game just messing around, maiming bandits and river pirates. Do I get another chance to join the factions? How? When I enter a castle and speak to the local Lord, I can just ask him where people is and that sort of thing.

Secondly, what the hell is a "fief"? And how do I attain one, and what can I do with it? Am I right in guessing that you're given ownership of villages and stuff? Exacly what am I supposed to be doing with these villages? Can my village(s) be attacked? If I try defending them, will the resulting battle take place within the city itself? Can I attack other factions' properties? And if I do so; will I take control of them? Can a faction be eradicated from the map?

Thirdly, Where are the new heroes? I'm of the understanding that Marnid and Borcha is to be found randomly in various taverns all over the map?

Hmmm. Actually, that's more like ten questions, but hey, **** me.

That'll be all. I hope you partially understand why I didn't consult already existing thread with these questions. They were so many that I felt it more appropriate to dedicate an entire thread to my ignorance. I have looked at the changelist and so on, but I mostly found the changes listed in a note-by-note form without any real definition, to some degree.

Ally yourself to factions by finding their King (you can ask where he is with any lord of that faction) and swearing loyalty to him.

Getting a fief involves being offered one. Once you've joined a faction you can't get one.

I'm not sure about offers coming back to you. I've never turned down the original offers, but I'd guess that the answer is no.

Thirdly: The heroes appear randomly  That's all there is to it. I've only found Borcha so far, still looking for the rest of them (I want Ymira  moar women)

Number 1, you have to find the city the lord of the faction is at then talk to him to join the faction.  Its not hard really. As for the fief lords that part seems to not be implemented yet.

Number 2, fief is a village and/or castle in the province.  One way to get one is by earning alot of fame and capturing a castle or two. The king usually gives those to you but not always. Yes you own the fief and you collect money from them periodically you also have to protect it. Your villages can be looted and burned. I am not sure about the castles whether a battle will begin because I waited at my castle and it just showed a army as my ally so that could be another bug. You can attack villages and castles but not cities for right now. At least I haven't been able to thus far. I don't think you can eliminate factions but then again I may have to be better.

Number 3, I don't know where all the new heroes are but I got Borcha at a tavern.

hopefully that helps

I joined right at the start, so I don't really know, but for me this was like it was in 0.808; walk up to the big cahuna and he'll ask if you'd be willing to serve their cause.

Secondly, what the hell is a "fief"?
Land you're given in return for your service to the king/chief/whatever. Gives you revenue.

And how do I attain one, and what can I do with it?
You're given one when you declare allegiance to a king/chief/whatever. You can improve it, housing, milling etc to increase revenue.
Am I right in guessing that you're given ownership of villages and stuff?
Yup.
Exacly what am I supposed to be doing with these villages?
See above. Try and keep baddies away from it maybe?
Can my village(s) be attacked?
Yours and other factions villages are burned and looted all the time. They 'resurrect' to normal though.
If I try defending them, will the resulting battle take place within the city itself?
AFAIK you can't defend it; maybe if you're in the vicinity when someone raids it? Dunno really.
Can I attack other factions' properties?
Hell yeah, raid till your heart's content!
And if I do so; will I take control of them?
No. They'll remain 'looted' for awhile, then they're rebuilt and all is normal and as sweet as can be. You get cash as well as loot from raiding.
Can a faction be eradicated from the map?
Dunno. I'm kindof hoping it can, so as to bring a sense of inevitability to the game.

Thirdly, Where are the new heroes? I'm of the understanding that Marnid and Borcha is to be found randomly in various taverns all over the map?
AFAIK they appear at randomly in taverns, a much better feature than that of previous versions if you ask me... I've got four at present, and it's really cool just waiting anxiously for the next one to come along!

Hmmm. Actually, that's more like ten questions, but hey, **** me.

I'm sure you're forgiven mate.

Word of advice though; try using word as h*ll and f*ck a lil less on these forums, and you'll get along with people so much easier.

Edit: Dammit, someone beat me to the punch!

Thanks a lot, everyone! One last question, at the top of my head: What do you use siege engines for? That is; I know siege engines are engines you siege with, but how do you build them, and how do they work on the battle map? Thank y'all in advance.

*Edit*

Since when did anyone get up in arms over profanity here? :???:

1- Are you sure? When I try to manage my castle, it says that's not possible in this version.

2- Really? wow, So far I only have a castle...

AFAIK you can't defend it; maybe if you're in the vicinity when someone raids it? Dunno really.

I once tried to help my farmers when their village was raided by Swadians - I rushed there and met the enemy outside the settlement. Though the battle took place inside the village (which was great fun).

Some are some aren't. Go check the Community section for clues.

I haven't got a castle yet.

As for the heroes I'v got all (?) four.

Borcha, Marnid, Ymira, and that other guy. I forgot his name.

That's the one. Ymira (sp?) seems to be doing best for me. I would like it if you could view your companions statistics aswell. Last I checked I had 600+ kills.

The lower the level, the better the
companion, in the long run. You can
tailor them to your needs.

Rolf sucks, he's level 29 so he'll never level, and he's got utterly crappy skill points, and worst of all due to a game bug no NPC can ever leave your party so you're stuck with him for life. I avoid him like the plague.
