[thoughts] Lack of incentive will kill this game within a few months after it...

Well, clearly someone never heard about Rennaissance Fairs
I guess not. After searching for it it seems to be some american carnival thingy...sounds fun

As for me using 'arguments' as you call them, pretty funny that you trip on the flowers on the carpet like that.  maybe if I used "****" like some do here to proove a point, I would get heard.
Adding stuff like that to your arguments only makes you seem immature and you'll end up not being taken seriously.

Here's one; make re-spawn in Battle mode, at least when you die you don't have to spend minutes watching some other guy hunting for the last 2 enemy on the other team, bored outta your ass.
That mode is called Team Death Match and is for impatient people such as you. You people are the reason why they can't have the credits at the start of the film anymore, you people would get out of there before the film even started  Instant gratification is the name of the game for you. I sure hope this game doesn't turn out like that and takes another route in order to appeal to more sensible and mature players.
So... people who like team deathmatch more than battle are by definition impatient and immature . I like team deathmatch, but I woudln't call myself an impatient person. I like long walks, the by my friends mockingly called 'talking movies' etc. But if you can choose between waiting and not having to wait, in a game, where you probably want some action, then I choose not having to wait.

M&B needs a lot of polish... that polish will make you want to jump in the game more and more. Unfortunately I don't belive the game is in a state where it is ready to start being polished. It looks like there are more and more core mechanics being added and worked out at the moment.  At some point in time, maps must be balanced and done over more professionally, game modes must be tweaked to work well, equipment cost and money earned must be tweaked until smooth. End of game stats should be added/improved. But it makes no sense to do these things yet until you have figured out the core game mechanics, as you can't shine what isn't there yet.

Just give it some time. It still has a .6 in front of it.

This. What the OP is doing is the functional equivalent of looking at a blade blank fresh from the forge and declaring that it will never become a usable weapon because it isn't sharp and has no hilt.

Quite a way to put it, NN. I agree.

Then again, I think the entire premise for this thread is based on assumption and not fact.

If this game had nothing to keep people coming back, I wouldn't be playing it right now. In fact, this is the only game I've come back to again and again over the past 4 years. We didn't even have multiplayer when I started. It's a new development.

Now think about how horridly boring the original game must have been without it! So boring I had to play it almost continuously for 4 years. Yeah, this game definitely has a short life.

I agree we shouldn't cast judgment on a beta, however I don't think that's quite what the OP is saying. For one thing I think he just means that multiplayer needs more incentive, which seems a valid enough argument for me. I wouldn't still be playing Native if it were just battle after battle with nothing in between. You level up, you get new weapons, you get land and wealth and the battles get bigger and bigger (usually.) So you can play it and it plays differently every time. The multiplayer does not benefit from a campaign map.

Secondly I think the main thing the OP wanted to do was get discussion going on ways to expand the lifetime of the game, and they've already said they weren't think so much about stats and unlocks as they were added depth with tournaments or some kind of multiplayer campaign mode.

By just adding massive tournaments, the multiplayer, as well as the single player, will get so amazing that the ratings will go beyond everyone's expectations. Of course, the stats and all those things previously mentioned are cool too.

The moment I see that, I'm out. If MnB wants to compete in grinding, that's all ok, I'll pick WoW in that case.

Ugh. Grinding is nasty. We'll get plenty of fresh incentives to play as new mod content comes out, and if someone wants to mod in a rank/skill system then more power to them. I don't want any of that nasty crap in the vanilla version.

What keeps me playing M&B for years is not achievement, it is:
A. pure fun
B. mods

When I run out of "A", I turn to "B" to get a new "A". I see vanilla as a game engine demonstrator, the mods are the game. Warband will have mods.
