[thoughts] Lack of incentive will kill this game within a few months after it...

Unlocks and achievements aren't inherently bad - but they don't cover up a poorly made game underneath.
They're little carrots-on-sticks that keep ADD players artificially addicted and playing for a little while longer.  They are pretty good tools for helping a game community start off strong (take Battlefield series and TF2 for example).

In Warband, they might implement unlocks by having some cosmetic rewards, like more banners, hairstyles, or facial features to customize your character with.

What would really interest me and keep me playing as a competitive gamer, are more skill-based mechanics (which introduce depth), more counters and counters to counters in melee, and competitive Rocket Arena style modes (possibly teambased).

I would love it if they took the Arena tournament maps from single player and let people have duel tournaments where you fight against players in brackets until you face off against the other champion, possibly with spectators in the stands.  Or have arenas where players can organize into small teams/by clan (4v4v4v4), and they duke it out (with one team being eliminated every round) until the two final teams are left, just like in single player.

I hope this thread dies (along with the OP) like the other similar one did  Seriously, if the gameplay's fine people will keep playing it, it doesn't matter that there are no achievements or unlocks. It does not need them at all. Yeah people like the OP might get bored and quit the game but you can't make everyone happy can you? Anyway the skill and the fun are all that matter with a game like M&B. Heck, Quake 3 or the older UTs don't have any achievements but you can still find enough people to get decent games going on. UT3 and his achievements on the other hand is a dead game and has even less players than UT99 or 2k4.

i agree with the aestethics achievement tho... and steam stats.

but no more than aestethics or with the mere purpose of showin other that you re a though guy

the skill is the factor... plain and simple.

Here's one; make re-spawn in Battle mode, at least when you die you don't have to spend minutes watching some other guy hunting for the last 2 enemy on the other team, bored outta your ass.
That mode is called Team Death Match and is for impatient people such as you. You people are the reason why they can't have the credits at the start of the film anymore, you people would get out of there before the film even started  Instant gratification is the name of the game for you. I sure hope this game doesn't turn out like that and takes another route in order to appeal to more sensible and mature players.

That just blew right back in your face, since I actually like having credits at the start of a movie- we got the legal junk outta the way fast, so we can go to the movie faster, idiot.

And like I said in an earlier post (which you clearly never read) Team Deathmatch is rare enough nowadays, since everyone's hellbent on siege or Battle (that is, at the time I can play, like when I"m not working and such)

But yeah- why bother, right?  I'm not some big shot forum dweller or some Super Melee expert in game, I don't want to change the combat system to match my exprience at the Rennaissance Fair, so my comments will pass under the radar or get blasted away by some more "influencal" member of the community or one of his goons.

So basically you want to turn Battle into team deathmatch because no one but you wants to play it?

If you want fast action gameplay then there will be plenty of people who want the same thing as you do when the game is released, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding a server with a game mode you like.

Quoted for making me snicker.

Yeah, i kinda agree to one point with Teala.

The best thing with warband is also the worste thing.

What i love about warband and other multiplayer games such as counterstrike is that one can just join a server and play and have fun. When one leaves there is nothing to worry about if you dont play. If one starts playing for skills and items the game becomes boring because it isent a game anymore its boring "work".... one cant just jump in and play... because one lacks all the skills and levels etc...

Anyway i would really hate it if warband became a game where "skills" are detmined with how many hours you spent farming levels. True skills should be determined by how well you are able to play e.g. shot with the bow, the lance, axe skills blocking skills etc etc.

But the worste thing with warband is that because there is always the same thing beeing reapated one EASILY becomes bored of the game.
But then take the example of counterstrike, i played it for like 6-8 years and i ofc didnt play just normal counter strike. Because i was bored with it.

What keept me staying was the MODS e.g. warcraft mode, super hero mode, paintball mode, knife mode and i am sure warband after relase will get ALOT of mods and new typ of game "typs" such as tournament mode, duel mode etc.

When warbands filled with mode and people are able to costumize there servers with great freedom i promis you. It will be hard to quite warband ^^, you wont ever get bored. And i am sure for world of warcraft freaks like you would have a mode sutied for you ..

a server running around with 100's of zombis in the dark would be my personal favorit haha gang up all 64 players! Get your swords rdy for some zombi slashing!

The point is, there is already a mode in existence which is exactly what you're asking for.

If battle was changed to have instant respawn, and Team Death Match was changed to have respawn at the end of the round, everybody would flock to TDM... would that solve your problem?

Obviously not, so the only solution is to get rid of the game mode that the majority of people prefer, to force them into what they regard as an inferior mode. That sounds like a good development solution.

People use some imagination you are all going down the same rout!:

A lot of people with the game think its fantastic but lacks edpth, I happen to agree with this.

We ALL hate grinding.

so, as in all things there is no black and white. Depth to me can easily be interpreted as lack of individual player progression, you want to be different from the rest!, you don't grind just for the sake of it, you grind to get the uber awesome title or mega axe! So what I suggest is this:

Keep the game style as it is, 1000 gold at the start, you earn money by kills etc BUT:

Have a stats system where your characters stats can be shown, example: number of kills: number of manual blocks : number of wins etc
Also right now there is no official CLAN or GUILD structure to the game. We want to group together and have clan matches, this is very important as it brings a great sense of achievement!, so bring in a clan structure where you enter a clan IN GAME. Said clan can then get things to personalise itself, right now you have the banner system, clans now have banners etc, but why not let the clans have different armour looks? the same stats as normal armour ofcourse, but different LOOKS? maybe even titles and weapons etc, obviously no STAT advantages, just looks.
now before you say GRINDING i will say NO, here is how the clan/player could earn them: The Keep.

The idea of "The Keep" is that you have one huge castle which is open once a week to be captured, all clans must sign up beforehand to participate in the siege, and whoever gets the castle receives benefits. at the end of the week, that clan has to hold the castle against all others to keep it. it is a question of the game designers as to which benefits the clan can keep after losing the castle, and the ones they have only when in control of it.

As for individual skill and progression, why not take a random leap out of no where and allow players limited ability to customise their armour?

there are huge amounts of ways past the no grinding/no depth problem, just use your heads!

common, give me feedback, and as always the 22nd rule!!

Does counter-strike Source have 'unlocks' and that sort of crap?
No.
They have allot of mods.

Are still allot of players playing the game, yes.
So stop worrying.

good call; but what about those WITHOUT a Clan or guild?  Maybe a special "Clanless" opening for them as well?

Just make it a single respawn in battle.  It's a good balance

But then we would have to expand the time limit (which is already too short) to accomodate this - so if you died quite quickly twice, you'd have to wait even longer for the next round.

Plus, if you respawned at the starting point, spawn-camping would be encouraged even more.
If you respawned somewhere random, there is too much luck involved, plus you would have to run to the battle (which is much more boring than watching your teammates play IMO).
And always spawning near the action is not only arcadey, but could ruin strategies, like when you're defending an area and a guy spawns behind you and stabs you in the back...

I'm sure spawn points can be programmed easely to fix those situations.

And no, no need to double the time limit.....Nowadays, the game's over waaayyy beofre the time's out.

So tell me how your spawn point system would work?

I'm not saying I'm 100% opposed to this idea, I just can't envision how it would work well.

And I play on the Oceanic servers - our battles often end in time-outs... it's very annoying.
A vote option to change the time would be nice, but I suppose that's a subject for a different thread.

I disagree with OP. Go play wow, kid.

It's gameplay that make game good or bad, not grinding. And this make warband multiplayer playable. I dont want stupid MMORPG (or rather MMOGrindGame - games labbeled as MMORPG lack RPG part).

How does having credits at the start of a movie get your to the actual content faster? Ahaha.. you just couldn't resist putting that "idiot" at the end didn't you. Nice

Well then you surely don't work the same hours as I do as when I usually play there's often a TDM or DM server.

Yeah, I'm really surprised that no one listens to you with your well formulated arguments such as "bored outta your ass" and "idiot". Oh, and for your information, this game has nothing to do with the Renaissance.

No, but at the end, I'm not stuck waiting for the credits to roll to see if there's some small clip or bloopers or wahtever (granted those movies were old movies, no bloobers there)

I'm in EST, so, I don't think our 'schedules' match.

Well, clearly someone never heard about Rennaissance Fairs

As for me using 'arguments' as you call them, pretty funny that you trip on the flowers on the carpet like that.  maybe if I used "****" like some do here to proove a point, I would get heard.
