Hello all here. ^_^ New person.
Been playing Warband enough to know what to do and what not to do.
For this kind of siege, I generally attack with a force of around 140, with 40 being archers (mainly Vaegir Marksmen for their fast ROF), roughly 60 elite infantry (These are usually Vaegir Guards and Huscurls), my 7 'Officers' and whatever is left I generally fill with Vaegir Knights. (Two handed weapons FTW. :3)
Standing from afar, I line up the archers so they have a clean shot up to the castle, line up the knights in front of them, my officers off to the side, and the infantry to follow me briefly before I send them off to attack. As the castle fires on the infantry charging up, the Marksmen generally can knock out what they can and after I've suffered about 1/3 of my forces, mostly wounded, I retreat and wait a day before attacking again. Since my party heal time is so fast, I heal all the wounded within that night and repeat until the castle is overtaken.
Rhodoks are a chore though. The sharpshooters aren't that bad actually, it's the infantry that get you. A Vaegir Marksman will fire around 2 shots to every 1 that the Sharpshooter fires, so overall DPS will be better and will cause the enemy to flinch, resetting his reload further. Also, since the Sharpshooters aren't
all looking at the archer line below, you will take around a 50% loss from this line alone, they get riddled with arrows after two volleys.
Also, if I attack a settlement that has a rather large number of elite infantry and they have few archers, or few elite archers at that, I tend to line them up and let the arrows crack a few shields. (I imagine this is common knowledge.
