You can make the shield larger than a Rhodok board shield and arrows and swords will still pass through the top and sides to hit the wielder if the hotbox perfectly matches the shield due to clientside
Fair, but if you can see everything below their knees, you should be able to footshot. You just shouldnt be able to see someones knees.
 
I don't want to see room below the shield, correctly aim at it, and hit an invisible wall.

Make shields bigger if you have to.
 
I agree most of that is bad, but even if it turns out that the weapons (and/or shield) technically touched, you still ought to be facing the enemy while blocking.

Although, I remember when playing for a while in May last year, there was the opposite problem:

 
For those wondering what my ping is. Its stable 54 every match and I have ''optical fibre'' if thats the right word for it. I dont have any ping related issues in any other games.

-Taleworlds day 1 of the closed alpha when this same stuff was brought up by myself and others.
-Tork and other Devils Advocates unironically when the game first released.
I still stand by it. If shields were realistic they wouldn't stop protecting you as soon as you let go of the RMB.

Personally I still think there are too many inconsistencies for the current stage of the game development...
