Aww Merc, it isn't the end of the world  . I watched few hours of Fox News during the summer and I have to say, the style of "reporting" that they practice is horrible. I don't understand how they can publicly sprout lies, twist half-truths and never stand up to their mistakes. And already that's without Bill O'Reilly or Glenn Beck. Beck especially is so atrociously stupid that I cannot believe he can breathe and talk at the same time. To be fair, I switched to MSNBC and found out that they were nearly as bad. CNN was the only one which was objective, even to the point that when they had someone outright lying there, they wouldn't harass the person about it, which was annoying too.

I'm pretty sure that no-on outside insurance companies thinks that health-care reform isn't necessary - your system is unfortunately so ****ed up it's beyond belief. Especially because insurance companies want to maximize profits, instead of responsible politics. Reminds me of the industrial-level farming which created the Dustbowl in the 1930s.

It is the end of the world, Jhess.

I don't think it's a coincidence that 2012, the year the world ends, is the year that Obama is up for re-election, or that December, the month in which the electoral college convenes and announces its decision, is the month in which the world ends.

DO YOU?!

But in all seriousness, yeah, I do believe that the healthcare system needed an overhaul, with some changes made for patient's rights and to control the accessibility of healthcare. I do not believe that Obama care is the way to do it. He's now got his government insurance provider, he's pushing for a bill to allow seizure of failing banks by the government, and he's doing a very good job of having words and deeds not match up. Yes, FOX news is kind of ****. So are some of the liberal networks. A better conservative site is http://www.drudgereport.com/ but it is still conservative, and has conservative slants.

rej/Seff/CA: It ain't democratic. It's a republic. Republic. And this case would be called tyranny of the majority. That is, with a majority in both houses of Congress and the White House, the Democrats can force whatever bills they want through; Republicans can't even filibuster. And the Democrats are losing their appeal to the American public. Just this month, in 2009 elections, nothing really major happened - it was all on a local scale - but swing states voted Republican on the local level. No state elections or national elections, but crucial areas voted Republican. The "Democratic" method of having the elected officials ignore the wills of their constituents is going to have repercussions for the Democrats.

Also, the federal republic's lasted five times as long as Stalinist communism did and ten times as long as Maoist communism has. Sure, it ain't perfect, but no government is perfect, as anyone with half a brain knows. I'm assuming you have a full brain between the three of you?

Republics elect representatives who decide for themselves what is best for the people. They're not doing anything wrong, by that standard.

Both democracies and republics, what's the difference?, pretty much always have "tyranny of majority" situations, right? Especially, in two-party systems (or well, where only two parties really matter.) The winners of a vote'd call their victory democratic and the losers'd easily call it tyranny if they're childish enough.

Okay, not really all that on this site, but these things will probably be said, hopefully jocular.

Perhaps because you never had surgery?

Mage: Of course. However, politically, they must take into account what the majority of the constituents want, and act accordingly, if they hope to retain their positions of power. The republic exists because the democracy is too unwieldy and awkward to be used, even on small scales.

FrisianDude: Not quite. Tyranny of the majority applies in this case, at least in my eyes; the majority (actually, in this case a supermajority) of the representatives of America ignored the majority of America. Tyranny of the majority does not always apply, and nor would anyone with half a brain pounce on every vote and declare the winning side to be tyrannical. Intentional misunderstanding and false extrapolation of and on a comment is not a proper way to conduct an argument.

We're talking about very (*very*) slim majorities here, I'd say our representatives have quite a bit of leeway when it comes to making their decisions. And, if things turn out well, they probably wont suffer for it.

I thought the republicans were the majority, all the retarded parades and everything.

Healthcare should be like school, free.

Ah, now I believe that here, you're assuming that since Obama has taken a step towards socialism, he's going full on Lenin. Since you're leaning to the right, and don't think that this was a good move, I take it you're Hitler?

Or you know, it might be related to the whole "Sure, it ain't perfect, but no government is perfect" part of the post. As in comparing it too distinctly different forms of government.

This is why politics are droll, bias is just as bad regardless which side it comes from.

Surely, if the right wing are such morons, you could deduce better insults or arguements against them.

Blast! Next will be signing off our rights to bear arms like those poor backwards Europeans!  :???:
Damn you Commie-Terrorist zombie lord Obama!

I already heard about a new gun owners tax he wants to put in place. I'm just gonna start buying my guns under the table, like a responsible American.

Hoard ammo, that is key, you need a basement full of various types of ammunition to go along with a massive collection of diverse arms.

The American dream at its finest.

No. Please, no.

Who would we blame all the problems in the world on then? Swedish society would implode without a scapegoat.

Úlfheðinn summed it up nicely.
