This game sucks

It's not a fair comparison. NMS was at 3/10 at release if I remember correctly. Bannerlord already is at 8/10.

PSA:
I know that a handful of vocal people deny the existence or importance of good reviews, everyone who doesn't hate Bannerlord is a toxic lying troll fanboy who enjoys sucking Armagan's stick so there is no need to tell me again.
A mentally brain-dead person could write better reviews than any of the decadent and lying game journalists, so an 8/10 from IGN or some other terrible website doesn't mean much.

But the players give it 8/10 as well, both on Metacritic and Steam...

But I guess they are all toxic fanboys. 160.000.

Metacritic and Steam reviews are about as indicative of quality as trying to see if a steak is cooked by using a monkey's paw. Maybe you should leave while the adults discuss reality?

Exactly. Any hyped up or extremely despised game is going to praised or **** on at launch with people with zero hours on steam, most recently with Victoria 3 where most of the first reviews that came out are just some ass memes of course.
The only thing less important than Steam reviews are a bunch of angry ex boyfriends on a forum...

And your opinion is super important, right? I am sure Taleworlds takes notes.

Reeking of butthurt

Right Mr.defender of Taleworlds, you should know by now that Taleworlds doesn't take notes from the fans, you can act politce or not when you have suggestions it doesn't matter you'll still regret it.

I know, that's why I said our opinion is less important than Steam reviews.

For me the fact that Bannerlord is somehow missing a lot of good stuff from vanilla Warband is near sacrilege and a disgrace especially after more than a decade of development, it's just complete incompetence from TW. For the past almost 3 years people have been continually saying "the game is in EA give them time" turns out they were wrong and the game is clearly unfinished. I don't even know how these people still operate with any self-respect, there seem to be no limits to the ridiculousness.

Ah yes, the feasts and skill books.

The game is literally unplayable without those.

Vanilla warband has better diplomacy and political intrigue that this game.
It has like 3 lines of dialogue and 2-3 quests. Calling it 'better diplomacy' is reaching. At least in bannerlord the AI genuinely assesses the strength of each faction when working our war/peace.

What actually has better diplomacy is the diplomacy mod - which was played so much people tend yo forget what was part of the original game.

I still like this game even though the campaign gets stale fairly quickly. I'm at 520 hours already. Or course a decent chunk of that was done AFK or for mod creation (those are generally the games I create mods for). I remember X Rebirth for example, 861 hours on that one...
Of course I would say that Terraria for example is a much better game, but I also only have 312 hours on it. Or No Man's Sky, actually loved that one, but only 132 hours.
Kinda funny when I think about it.

Genuine question as Ive never played that far into it - how does the AI asses the strength of another faction? Does it "just know" enemy troop numbers or is there room for error?

It's still just a number in the end, you're not taking the context of the reviews into consideration; there's a lot of 'meme' reviews that skew results too. Even if you're sticking with Steam as the valid objective results, take a look at the 'Most Helpful Reviews' (usually what you see at the bottom of the store page). You have to aggregate the context for a better reference/feeler of the reviews.
Most 'upvoted' one I see is from 'breast milk'; and then look at the next by a 'Nikko'

So you don't see the difference between the NMS launch and Bannerlord launch. That's OK. I don't have time for that kind of discussion.

Look, I'm not on the opinion trying to compare NMS to BL's launches or hoping BL does the same; completely different demographics, studio, developers, country, genre, circumstances, post-reactions, and other factors where there is way too many to just boil it down to a simply 3/10 vs an 8/10 steam review as the final objective answer.
The only way is if both games were released same time (absent the EA stuff) and the same PC (and console) players reviewed both where can we get a more objective comparison between them and using that 3/10 or 8/10 truer; which isn't possible.

But saying because BL is 8/10 vs NMS's 3/10 as the definitive measure why the game doesn't or does suck shouldn't matter. It's literally just an aggregate of either a thumbs up or thumbs down button, so really, it's either a 1/1 game or a 0/1 game.

There are many more features missing in Bannerlord from Warband than just feasts and skill books, as you can see from my post signature.

Nobody called Bannerlord unplayable. It's playable. But it is an unfun game.

And it is certainly unacceptable that a sequel which has been in development for 10 years with a 10x larger team should be missing so many features and so much functionality compared to its predecessor.

Yeah, they did in Warband too. Turn on cheats sometime, the AI is constantly assessing the strength of other factions when working out war/peace in the background. You also get a simple summary in the factions menu and when talking to lords and asking them how the war is going. Eg: "The war is going poorly for Harlaus, but he feels obligated to continue fighting for a while yet."
