I have played every mod on this site, they are all beautiful in there own way... this mod... makes me breathless.

First off, as someone who has recently got into musket style warfare (Thanks to Empire:Total War), I know how brutal this combat can be. You sire, have pulled it off PERFECTLY. Not only does the smoke staying in the air, the round shaped protectiles that go straight (once you pull the trigger of course, or as straight as they can!) And are nearly always one shot kills, everything about this mod rocks. The roaming peasant mobs are SO fun to kill, I love how quickly you can level in this mod, the uniforms are beautiful, everything about this mod screams near perfection. You make me so happy inside... now it's time to use once again my great tactic of letting my infantry engage the enemy, and me charging on horseback and stabbing them while they reload! Hehe! One glitch (I think?) the Szabla does Peircing damage instead of cutting I think. I use it for it's one kill awesomeness! Thank you sire for making this mod, I will happily follow and play this one to DEATH!

The Uniforms look really Ragged. I don't know what Bjorne did. I think that the Uniforms should be improved a bit.

well. It is becaused I seemed to save the files as .bmp before converting them into .dds. and therefor resiesed them. And the game autore-size textures so they fit. And there for it got messy.

Sometimes, a man just likes to wear his stretchy pants...

I quote on it, fixing the uniforms would bring this mod perfect, but it stays My favourite mod ever.

Thank you... And yes.. I will work on the uniforms. well only the brittish, french and austrian the rest are original

I really like this mod as well, I love the whole black powder / Napoleonic warfare age. I hope someday there's a new version or expansion for Mount & Blade that adds siege weapon support, because wheeling up a nimble French cannon, massive Austrian mortar, or whatever to decimate your enemies would be tons of fun. Still, the beautiful smoke effects and very interesting, different battles from the native game (or even most other mods) make it all worthwhile.

One thing really bugs me though. Cavalry were actually still very powerful in the black powder age, it wasn't until the dawn of machineguns that horse cavalry were phased out entirely. But, in this mod all the horses have very very low charge stats, such that if they hit a single infantryman they stop cold. This seems a bit excessive, I mean cavalry can get shot and taken out in one hit now so why do they have to be so useless on offense, too?

If you mean to make infantry and cavalry more equal, might I suggest seeing if you can get the Braced Spear function from the Native Expansion mod? It's very brutal versus heavily armored mounted knights, basically if a knight moves within 5 feet of a readied spear they go down like a sack of bricks. If you made Melee Muskets / Melee Rifles that had bayonets count as Spears, and perhaps added Pikemen (units of Pikemen existed right alongside muskets for awhile, largely because cavalry = mean), this would allow cavalry to be valuable against unprepared enemies but highly vulnerable to prepared enemies or specialist anti-cavalry enemies. If it's possible to differentiate them, you could make Pikemen capable of taking down a horse from a ten feet radius, while bayonet users could only do it from a few feet away, that way there'd be a point to having Pikemen (after all why have any unit in a game if no one would want to choose it?).

On the other hand instead of implementing that script(s), you could just the charge damage variable so that you can't knock out enemy troops so easily by running them down, which is the most overpowered thing about the Charge stat, and give horses a viable Charge stat again so they can still push through infantry lines like cavalry SHOULD, imo. Even dragoons and other cavalry that have rifles or pistols are really bad right now since if you get close enough for them to fire accurately at the enemy, a few will dash in to make a charge, get stuck on a peasant or something, and die.

I think it's good that we can't run parallel down a line of infantry and KO each and every one, but a horse with its many hundreds of pounds of pure muscle can definitely push through a couple malnourished medieval folks-- really they're more likely to just step out of the way, the main risk it poses is they'll get lanced or slashed by the passing cavalryman, which is what should actually happen and is why cavalry, including lance and sword cavalry without guns, were so powerful even in the 1800-1900's. One might think that the horses of today are far too polite to run someone down, but they actually can be very dangerous-- a horse trained for warfare and taught to be unafraid of loud guns and shouting soldiers with spurs being jammed in its flanks (PETA didn't exist back then) should be even more-so.

Anyway, I'd really like to play this mod anyway since it's got a lot going for it, and I'm trying to 'fix' it for my own tastes, but I can't figure out how to change the horse stats. I tried to modify the item_kinds1.txt file, the one that sounds like it's the newest (it has 2009610 after .txt), but the changes aren't getting into the game. Do I need to start a new game for a change in the Charge stat to show?

I changed this line from
itm_courser Courser Courser 1  courser 0  65537 0 323 110595670016 0.000000 70 0 16 0 2 0 37 43 0 0 2 0 0
to
itm_courser Courser Courser 1  courser 0  65537 0 323 110595670016 0.000000 70 0 16 0 15 0 37 43 0 0 2 0 0

But no change occurs in the game, at least no visible change on the horse's stats in inventory.

I'll try changing that other 2 to a 15 instead, maybe that'll do something.

wow. That took me all morning to read through ..

First of all. the main reason why I made the cavalry less powerfull is like you said. To make rather equal to the infantry. And why I didn't implant Spear Bracing was because a muskets is to short in comparison with a lance so it doesn't matter. But if you had pike me with 3m long pikes then Spear Bracing would be real good... This might be something we add to the game yes.

And why the changes doesn't show up in-game for you maybe that you have to start a new game. And a tip. use the itemeditor when editing item_kinds1.txt

Oh thanks for the fast reply, didn't expect it here so I put my thoughts in Suggestions too (I didn't just copy & paste though, took the time to reformulate my thoughts, also halfway down the page after the ---'s I go on to make other suggestions).

I'll look for that item editor, thank you.

edit: Yes, used item editor and the modification works now, hooray! I still kept it kind of low, the Courser my character uses only has 10 charge instead of 25 or whatever it is in Native, Stable and Sumpter's at 5, and Hunter (apparently the heaviest horse that the mod uses) is the highest at 15. So, it's still toned down, and I shouldn't be tempted to run parallel down a line of infantry and knock them all out.

A few more thoughts on that Braced Spear modification. I had kind of a love-hate thing with it at first, because it's so devastating when a braced spear nicks you, takes out and possibly lames/kills your horse, but eventually I grew to love it because well, it's the right kind of realistic. It makes you readjust your strategy and once you learn new tactics against you can still win (such as flanking the infantry after they get into melee combat, or just steering clear of anyone whose got a polearm in their hand or across their back), but if you don't pay attention it'll get you. As it should, really, if we aren't paying attention we aren't having fun. It keeps us on our toes.

I've gotten to where I wouldn't want to play a mod with overpowered knights like in Native, but just having Charge be less exploity is enough, I think it's good how it is. I hope now that I've changed the charge stat to be somewhere between where you had it and where it is in native, it'll be nicely balanced. I should still fail if I charge headlong into masses of infantry, but slashing through a thin line of infantry with a cavalry charge should now be viable.

p.s. Sorry about the spamminess, I just talk/think too much outloud.

well... I get alot to read. And that's good cause now mom can't complain on me that I am not reading.

But yes... adding pikemen is a good idea with the spearbracing. And also giving the lancers longer lances. So they can reach the musketmen before their bayonet can reach the lancers.

seriously this is definately one of the best mods out there. only few things bother me like the reloading animation for rifles but that is only a minor issue and would never stop me from play the Mod. Great Job to all who worked so hard to make this the awesome mod it is.
