They won awards for the old character system

I seem to remember either Mount & Blade or Warband winning an award for the character creation and leveling system. Yet they scrapped it entirely for a system that is incredibly messy and flawed.

Are there any old timers that remember if the original game had any problems with the character system to begin with? I didn't start playing until just after Warband came out.

EDIT: Of course they shouldn't have used the same system again. It's just noteworthy to me that what they did so well the first time around is what seems to me the worst this time around.

While I liked the old system, I also love this system. Certainly it has a few flaws, but it is EA. I can only imaging things getting better.

I can't remember there being any big problems. Honestly they could've just somehow improved the old system, maybe just add the perks to some skills which i like because it gives you this feeling of nice progression when you unlock some nice perks at certain skill thresholds. Now the system is just bad.

I vaguely remember it. Haven't played Warband in a while. I'm pretty happy with this system, truth be told. As a kid, I was always just throwing stats into the same **** every time so I could win. Bannerlord's system nudges me to change it up a little because I know if I commit to this, I might not be able to get that later.

Well I what I like this system better, I guess I just got fed up with the old one with all its different variations from all the different total overhaul mods I played.

I guarantee you, that if TaleWorlds had used the exact same system, then they would be getting slated for having done so.

They should certainly not use the exact same system. Maybe I should have phrased this differently. It's just a little noteworthy to me how well they did in this regard with the original game but it is imo the biggest flaw of this release.

This system is a good idea, just right now buggy as hell and unrefined. But the idea of "grow to what you do and use" is solid, and I like it a lot more than the generic xp dump the original system was.

the only problem with the new system is it so long to increase your state. it just need to be faster to gain XP

The new system has a very severe calculation bug that was recently reported. Once it's fixed we might see this new system in a whole new light.

So what? Previous system had it's flaws and wasn't perfect either. It was just best at the time the award was granted. I think that too many players hope that this will be Warband 2.0 but devs are trying to make something new and fresh. Nobody wants to do exact same thing all the time. Give it time for improvement and you'll see that you'll get used to it and maybe it will again win some award depending on the concurrent systems at the time.
