well in that case, i'm not sure how true to the story you want it, but...
technically SOLDIER, and the TURKs should both be a part of SHIN-RA since in the FF7 story they are both subordinate portions of the SHIN-RA company. The TURKS and SOLDIER should both be different types of elite troups for Shinra, as should pagoda warriors for Wutai.  Wutai and Shinra are both good choices for the war that you are mentioning, as is Cosmo Canyon, as they would be a good neutral faction.  If you are in need of more factions, instead of spliting up Shinra (Shinra soldiers, Turks, and SOLDIER) look to other less recognized factions, such as the GI  (a group that used spears with bows and arrows almost exclusively, This is also the group that turned Seto to stone during the battle for Cosmo Canyon <FF7 backstory I think it would fit>  Also don't shortchange the Gold saucer,  even if you didn't like the casino aspect of the game, what better place to have a tournament, not to mention that it has it's own prison/gang community living below it <desert gang/Gold saucer faction maybe>  I also think it would be cool to have hyper agressive horses (with added cut, piercing, or couched lance dammage) as neutral enemies in some battles as like random encounter behemoths, just to add a new level of difficulty.  Thats about all i have for now let me know what you think

I have a few more issues to fix then i might consider releasing a pre-alpha, for testing purposes.
Ooh, can't wait. I want to travel down past Chocobo Farm like you mentioned.

From what JC just said, I think it would be good to have the GI, more probably as a type of bandit than a faction. Also, the criminals around the base of the Gold Saucer would be a good spawn point for a Looter type of bandit. Perhaps, also, the towns with a reactor could start of at the height of wealth, and be of the ShinRa faction, while those that either don't have or refused the proposition of a reactor in their town could be aligned to Wutai, or even simply a neutral faction.

/general thoughts.

P.S. In any case, I don't think Gold Saucer should be a faction, and if it is, it should be neutral. You know Dio, capitalist or not, he's not the kind to ally against small towns and villages.

I just need to code a way to travel between Costa del Sol and Junon and some other minor things, then i think it's pretty much ready for pre-alpha.
If i don't encounter anything major, i will probably release it tomorrow.

Please note that i only have readied it for modding, and that there are no new weapons etc yet.

I think it all sounds like an epic win,  Just keep us updated and i'm sure we can throw some more ideas around to give this game a whole new level of depth in gameplay

I need names for Wutai Leaders(knights), i got Godo of course.

(Just found an odd off-topic fact, apparently Rufus Shinra financed the first AVALANCHE )

I guess you mean futuristic. Other than the helm (which is just a helm with night vision etc. built in, which is not really that futuristic), i actually think it looks more like a ww1 era-ish uniform.
But let's forget this, i don't want to derail this thread.

The game is set in an industrial/fantasy era. And they use rifles and police batons, they are a police force of sorts.

Makes sense. He wanted to come into the presidency.

As this war takes place a while before the game, you could quite legitimately say that the more advanced gun weapons had not been invented, or implemented into the ShinRa forces yet, and just have them use crude rifles. Dunno what you're going to do about Wutai Knight names.

Oh, and Cosmo Canyon.

Say, do you think that if the mod moves along well, you might consider modelling and implementing some of the signature weapons? They could be very rare and only achieved in certain conditions. The ASoIaF mod did so.

... Okay, maybe I'm getting ahead of the mod a little there. Would be near though.

Looking forward to alpha.

Was actually going to add some location specific music to ....specific locations, like the Cosmo Canyon theme when you are in Cosmo Canyon.
It's not a priority as of this moment. But it will be added if it goes along well.

Maybe a few, and very rare. At least Masamune and the Buster Sword.

Do you think maybe the Buster Sword could be made less ridiculous, if it is implemented? To be honest I'd rather it not be in. Cloud has less silly weapons that could be used. But yeah, can't really complain if it is. Imma go nostalgia over FFVII music.

I partially agree, i think it looks good, but only in FF7.
But i want to have the main good vs evil signature weapons in, if you get my drift.

I'm currently just waiting for an answer so i can add a temporary code to travel between the continents.
Otherwise you won't be able to get to the western continent.

JENOVA

Even out of the game I ****ing love this.

Anyway, yeah, the weapons would be good. Sort of an Easter Egg. I think the Buster Sword of Cloud is pretty ridiculous, but it's impossible to imagine FFVII without it, and I certainly wouldn't want to get rid of it. And, in the end, it was a fantasy game, impossibilities take a backseat to characteristic ****.

I was just posting that...

One Winged Angel is also another great track from Advent Children. I like very little from the film, but I think this, and JENOVA, are excellent.

(Although I of course still prefer the more atmospheric originals.)

I just need to upload these remixed FF songs somewhere. I reckon at least one will suit the mod. One especially would make an excellent map travel theme.

This is another Jenova theme that might suit better, or the original

The MIDI version of Jenova absolute is pretty nice too

I have a basic code to travel between Junon and Costa del Sol now. It isn't completed and thus accessible from every town though, but i guess it could do for now. Also waiting for upload access on MB repository.
