The Windows 10 Thread

Has anyone else had the experience where Microsoft quit asking and unilaterally set up a date and time to install Windows 10?
Yeah, I've had that. Instead of "We recommend Windows 10" the popup was "Your computer is set to upgrade to Windows 10 in X hours." It was easy to tell it to forget it, though. There was a little button that said something like "Change when the upgrade occurs," and when I clicked on that there was an option to not have it occur at all.

Fortunately, I haven't noticed any issues with Windows 10 yet although it was rather strange seeing my computer working away at 5:00 AM this past Sunday.

I finally installed it on my laptop like a couple of weeks ago. I haven't used to a lot, but I don't really mind it. Some things about it seem nice, but there are some things that 7 does better.

The're quite a few obscure programs that I still like to use that don't work on Windows 10 yet. Programs written by one person that probably won't be updated anytime soon, like old MIDI Yokes and SCC emulators and raster image editors and MOD trackers and Winamp plugins and animated GIF editors and Warcraft II file extractors and wave form generators for oscilloscope animations and game physics demos and much more!

Yeah, so screw Windows 10!!!1! Windows XP and 7 for lyfe!!!

Why not? In 2020 Windows 7 loses support, and 8 sometime around there too. Then there are no other options for someone who doesn't want to deal with Linux's difficulty and Apple's inflated prices. Microsoft has no reason not to push it down to consumers over the coming years, seeing as they don't plan on releasing another 'version' of Windows like they've been doing.

Anyone know how to find the saved games for EU3 in Win 10?  Something about compatibility files in Win 7 but their location eludes me.

What's happening to Chrome OS though? I thought it would be a user friendly Linux OS that could easily compete with Windows, but it's basically a browser

I expect Google to aggressively try to gain a foothold in the OS market. It's a logical next step.
Maybe this is it: http://www.theverge.com/2016/8/15/12480566/google-fuchsia-new-operating-system

Google is heavily pushing the cloud and web apps to replace traditional desktop applications. Instead of developing an OS that can do everything, they're making their everything work on their web browser. It might work, too, with things like Web Assembly for intensive applications and the usual JavaScript stack for everything else.

Hey there. Did Windows 10 improve performance and stability-wise since the first months of its release, or is it still more or less the same thing? I was wondering whether I should consider switching from 8.1 or not. Last time I had 10 installed, it seemed like some games, like Warband, experienced significant performance loss, and the boot time was atrocious, which are some of the reasons I rolled back.

I was using version 1 of Windows 10 until I accidentally 'upgraded' to the Anniversary edition wherein everything stopped working. Back on 7 now, and never going back.

I believe, that in Linux we have the future. It's slowly getting there. Of course those big companies try to fight back, but sooner or later they lose. It is just matter of time. You cant dam up an ocean. I'm using windows 10 and ubuntu atm. Yeah, windows works and I can play games with this, but I just don't like Microsoft. Neither I like Google or Apple and especially I don't like Facebook. Those big corporations are too big. I don't like  how they can tell us what we should do.
