The Windows 10 Thread

So I reserved the update on my 8.1 laptop and it finished downloading a couple of weeks ago, but like some of you have decided to just let it be while Win 10 gets smoothened out. I like 'em smooth and with minimal hair... uh, bugs.

Thing is, the notification thing keeps crashing now every time I wake up the laptop from sleep mode, and I'm not sure if that's indicative of a problem or what, but it's pretty annoying. Anyone else experiencing this? The crashing only started last week, IIRC.

I've heard of a lot more problems with that notification than with Windows 10 in general.

Mic sounded like Jabba the Hutt on steam games could not play CS:GO. also the startup is significantly slower than 8.

Upgraded 8 to 10. First problem, Logitech mouse wheel moves like 100 lines with a gentle touch. The search software and files in the menu becoming a bing online search already killed me.

There's a chrome plugin bing to google which will automatically redirect the bing search to a google search.

I believe there is a Windows 10 tweaking tool that allows you to disable it. Can't remember the name, will edit if I find it.

Click on search bar -> click gear on menu at left -> set "Search online and include web results" to off.

I have an AMD A10 and i had to downgrade because there were all sorts of compatibility issue.

That makes literally no sense, it's a standard x86-64 processor that will work the same on any x86-64 operating system. Plus it uses the same graphics drivers as Windows 7/8/8.1 for the APU bit. Are you sure your system is configured correctly in the first place?

At this point i'm not sure but I had to downgrade nonetheless no matter what the cause was.

Well it definitely wasn't your CPU. Trust me.

Anyone know msconfig on Win 10? Or another way to look at programs starting up.
I'm missing the command prompt.

Just go to the search box and type msconfig and it should show up. Works the same as before, except the Startup tab is just a link to the new task manager to manage startup applications.

You can also just right click on the start button to open command prompt, and run, etc.

Or Windows+R to open run.

Nifty

Another thing, when starting up, Microsoft's www.msn.com often loads. It's really annoying.
How do you turn that off?

How do you remove password protection when starting up?

How do you make the dekstop icons smaller?

Yes you can. :/
I've done it many times.

1) Open the run box and type control userpasswords2 then untick users must enter username and password to use this computer

2) To make desktop icons smaller just right click on the desktop and under view click small icons

3) www.msn.com - Do you mean it starts when starting the browser or starting the PC?

When it starts - the browser opens automatically with msn.com
