To save us all from stupidity, I have made a super secret and special thread where we can discuss the imminent Wellenpocalypse.

I mean, let's be real here, psychiatrist and clinical psychology have some work to do in regards to being "proper sciences".

There's a reason they're working on actually empirically testing treatment methods now, instead of just making **** up. Now of course, that doesn't mean everything done by either of those two fields is bad, but it does mean that there is definitely some room for critique.

TL;DR: Plenty people other than Harkon (hint: also me) have issues with how treatment methods have been developed.

Making **** up?

Psychiatry is making **** up?

Schizophrenia somehow doesn't exist?
Bipolar disorder doesn't exist?

All those troubles were just invented to sell pills?

My dad obviously faking it.
Ruining his own life for attention he doesn't even get.

You're completly clueless.

Stop blowing the ****ing lid towards Ulf, he actually works connected to psychology so he has no interest in badmouthing his own field, ****'s sake.

Harkon Haakonson 说:
Medical school has been long completed now. I'm currently an intern of Dermatology.

Huh, no ****? What made you go into that field, out of curiosity?

To elaborate and help you perhaps to understand what I mean.

No, I'm not saying it's all made up.

What I am saying is that historically, psychiatry and clinical psychology as fields have been really bad at using the scientific method and properly testing treatment methods.

Basically, in the past, people created "interesting theories" then just went with, developing treatment plans that aren't necessarily effective at treating what they are supposed to treat.

I'm not suggesting that mental illnesses aren't real or that psychaitry or clinical psychology are "stupid/bad/wrong/evil/etc."...what I am suggesting is that it is important that researchers and practitioners (therapists) are critical of treatment methods developed and that they pay attention to empirical evidence.

The important thing is helping the patient, which means we have to find the best possible treatment methods we can.

Rebel, I don't think he was saying mental illness is made up, but that the methods used to study and treat mental illness are frequently based on very little science.

Eh, well, always good to admit ones mistakes when you misinterpret what someone was getting at.

What bother me is they are closing mental hospitals.

TON of people who need SERIOUS help are left on their own.

They even cut the social program to compensate.

At least in Quebec.

@ TDM It was the most interesting field to me in my final practical years of Med School (we go through all the fields), closely ahead of Radiology, I've always found it fascinating how a lot of skin conditions are representations of severe issues in your body, and it's an area with a lot of clinical, diagnostic practice, and also has more minor surgeries, and many interesting sub-specializations, such as cosmetic dermatology ($$$) which are both things that I desired. Never was one for large scale surgery.

I feel bullied by the lack of attention towards my person in this thread so far. Like.. seriously get a grip.
And since I am also emotionally unstable right now because I am getting exceedingly tired and work is starting again on Thursday and I'd love to have more money and work less and have more cats, and all that, this means you're all doing a horrible thing here.

There.

Bingo.

And yeah, funds are getting cut across the board in regards to mental healthcare, so ****'s likely to only going to get worse. It's not uncommon now for people to have to sell their house just to be able to pay for treatment for serve mental health problems after the insurance company decides "good enough" after a week or two.
