The Warband Mod

So, with a lot of the warbands popping up on warbands.mountfanblade.com I thought it would be interesting to discuss a mod to accommodate them. Pretty much, each warband gets to have a faction in the mod, and can pick what their troops will be based on criteria which apply to each warband. Simple criteria like, no more than four classes per faction, no more than a total of 300 weapon proficiency points per troop, and no more than 10 skill points per troop. This way each warband can fight in their own style, such as a viking warband with vikings how they want them to be, and everyone is on a pretty fair footing. Tournaments could then be set up with warbands fielding their own custom troops.

I was just thinking this would be nice the other day, some kind of troop editor for clans to make a unique army with. Cool if you could also import pictures for surcoats and shields.

This is a very nice idea, but I think my clan the 'Court of Rapists' would make an odd faction.

To each their own, and why I think this would be so interesting.

to each their own is a poor stance on rape

max 300? so say 300 2h or 300 pole arms would be very deadly...
Well 255 is max, and it would mean they could only spend 45 on other weapons, which is nothing.

Still I think it would be better to have something like
infantry: all proficiencies 100
archers: melee 60 + archery 180 or
archers: melee 80 + archery 150 or
archers: melee 100 (they would still have less power strike) + archery 130
cavalry: all proficiencies 90 or
cavalry: all proficiencies 70 + archery 150

and than add a some skill customization.

Would be nice to see the mod system first and find out what's possible. Four way struggles? The mysterious new faction?

Hopefully there will be three-way and above battles possible. Maybe I'll port my Custom Battle Mod over to Warband when possible. Everyone gets to pick a few troops, pick a side and battle away.

O wow that would be amazing but do you think that is possible to implement on a level that players with all most no modding ability or knowledge could use.

Well, from what I've seen in other threads, the multi player classes should be very moddable, even through text files, and I'm sure it'll be easy to add new factions. M&B kinda has a reputation for being moddable after all.

No, cause then you have clone classes which are boring. What's the point of having a viking berserker class if he has the same exact two handed skill as a pikeman?

I figure it would be a community effort, with one person in charge of it. It's not hard to add troops and factions in 1.011 though. And since this would only be an option for multi player with no campaign map, I figure it would be a fairly quick and easy implementation for new factions if a new clan pops up. Since we wouldn't have to deal with making new lords, referencing cities, and all that campaign BS.

This as base proficiencies would be ok I guess, of course you can customize that to make your faction unique. By choose skills like athletics and distributing more proficiency points.

i'm all for the idea of speccing your own characters pre fight. (if you're going to be nords, you spec for all the nord troops, etc)

i think Archonsod is right we should take it slow, the beta did only start at the end of august (not that i have anything against planning for the future and brainstorming)

You have no idea how long even well planned mods take to be made, do you?

And no, this doesn't apply to this thread at all. Read.

Depending on how much Taleworlds will allow us to mess with the game down the road, I've had all sorts of ambitious ideas for Warbands.

One thing I find really easy to get excited about is the prospect of some sort of API that allows us to gather information about battles.  Things like "who killed who with what and where."  Then we could generate some pretty crazy things like battle maps that show where the battle was most concentrated, most popular gear, etc.  This would also allow us to do automated tournaments that wouldn't require the honor system/referee, which is what we'd need at the moment.

It's really a pipe dream to be honest, but boy would it be awesome.

I'll leave that to the coders. All I'm talking about here is simply adding units and factions. Hardly a pipe dream or difficult matter.
