No they aren't growing food for us but for themselves so they can sell it. At least the ones around here don't give it away.

No, I don't think you got it at all. Rain = fertile ground for planting. Fertile ground for planting = healthier and more bountiful harvests. Better harvests = more food, lower prices for food, higher quality food, etc.

So being mad at a farmer for wishing it was raining is just ****ing retarded, since *you* stand to benefit from the rain too, indirectly.

No, really? Did it occur to you that if the farmer is wishing for rain, then there hasn't been enough? He wouldn't be wishing for rain otherwise.

Not necesarily.
Too much rain can wash away all the good stuff(minerals and the organic stuff).
Sort of depends what you're growing. Rice needs a big amount of water, wheat needs much less.

For gods sake, its like Penty's new avatar puts all his posts through a -20 IQ filter. I didn't even know it was him, as before I thought him odd and quirky, now he's just a silly tosser.

Fair enough, I got the impression that you were saying I couldn't isnult/complain about farmers becuase they grow crops. But as Hyperion said the right amount of rain is needed and we have had quite a lot of rain recently. We have had forcasts for a realy hot dry summer but we seem to get forcasts for that every year and they don't amount to much in Norfolk.
And it was one morning of nice weather, with rain forcasted for the afternoon. And I'm fairly certain the the guy would still be complaining if it had been raining that morning.

You also said that your market pays better.
It does, the local supermarket does not but the market (as in the farmers market) does pay a lot better since thats when they sell direct (or more directly.)

He's channeling the spirit of Hraefn!

I should be in England in August - September, unfortunately I can't see the Ashes though, because it's way too expensive D:

Still, I'm looking forward to it

I wouldn't expect it to be too exciting this time around. Neither the English or Australian selectors seem to be capable of actually picking a team at the moment.

Hate to be the one to point out the bleedin' obvious, Arch, but it's cricket.

Cricket isn't meant to be exciting, it's like foie gras, handel and countdown, collectively great as they may be you can't gratify yourself to them (now that vorderman's gone anyway).

Excitement is accidental, yet surprisingly common in cricket

Ah well, at least my club season starts when I get home.
