fish and chips is incontestably bad food. Blandest fish(cod, plaice, haddock) breaded and fried.
british breakfast is tasty but too unhealthy, so you have to limit how much you eat because your stomach hurts after sometime.
pies have quite potential and can be very tasty with little ingenuity
Gravy is OK
black pudding is very controversial, and hard to use in any recipe without dominating the whole thing with iron taste
bangers and mash is nothing worth trying
bubble and squeak is literally leftover food
There are lots of very fine seafood restaurants but I don't know how popular is cooking seafood among british families.
But tbf it's quite difficult to make an assessment given how international the cuisine is. I'd normally compare what's cooked at homes and cheap restaurants but no family I've ever visited cooked 'traditional' british food. Everyone was experimenting with asian/mediterranean recipes.

srsly, it's low-quality fish with lots of oil and flour to make you forget what it was. If fish and chips is good then anything deep fried is good.

Fish and chips is my favourite food in a restaurant a day before an exam as with that food I can study while eating. You can eat it with one hand without cutlery, every component of the dish tastes the same so you don't have to focus on eating at all as nothing is going to surprise you, it is not that bad when it gets cold, you have a dressing to bring some taste to it and it is not that expensive. Also, you feel more proper than eating just fries or kebab. Honestly, it is a great dish. It is just not tasty
