To me it sound unrealistic that 10-20 soldiers can chop down the second gate in seconds. Why not make it alot tougher? Use the battering ram. I do not belive they risk to dull their weapons by chopping down a gate that most likely had nails in them. No they would use the battering ram or simular device.
