The screenshots thread.

Edit: Many thanks to Lost-Lamb for some much-needed pruning. Now remember everyone, screenshots only from now on and thumbnail large images unless you want that to happen all over again. I know I don't.
This precedent seems to have become largely ignored.

It's rather annoying seeing large images that create horizontal scroll bars. Any image that creates horizontal scroll bars on the forum is way too large, IMO. What's more, people are posting images that in formats that take ridiculously long to load. (.png, .bmp)
Now, I don't agree with requiring everything to be thumbnailed, but all ridiculously large images should be resized or thumbnailed before being posted, and all images with formats such as .png, or .bmp, should be thumbnailed.

It's really quite annoying, and it''s my belief that something needs to be done about it. I propose that it should be put into the first post, alongside "This thread is for posting screenshots only, not idle chit-chat. Until you can produce the goods, keep your grubby little cursors away from the "reply" button!" (which, by the way, seems to get ignored quite frequently as well)

IMO, an image of this size is fine:
catii03s.jpg
But images like these:
lazersx.png

mb6.png
should be thumbnailed like this:

Just a thought. Am I the only one with this opinion?

I agree - aren't .PNG pictures faster to load than .JPEGs though? .PNG is much smaller, but I rarely notice which files load how fast.

I'm pretty sure they aren't. PNG pictures are of higher quality. (lossless image format), while .jpg is a very lossy image format.

.jpg is faster, yes, generally speaking. For busy images, like screenshots, you can even cut down on quality (90%, maybe), and have a much smaller size.

Also, I hate how it seems some people post in that thread just to increase their post count. I think that one or two pictures of a horse archer shooting something is fine, but if every other day there are ten new ones from the same person, it's a little much.

(I don't love to name names, but Tatari Okan seems to be the main culprit of this. I think he hangs out in language boards, so I suppose coming out to raise up post count is okay, but this just seems lame.)

I'm fine with it. I'll usually do one screenshot session a month maybe, during a promising or badass battle, so putting a bit more effort into the screenshots isn't a bother, but pray tell me, how do you edit pictures into thumbnails ?

Easy. When you copy the link location, just press Alt+F4 after you paste it on the forum.

Ya know, there's a microsoft tweak (google powertoys) that is just for resizing pics. Very handy.

Its a screenshot thread mate... Your supposed to take pictures and post in it. If he was putting up 10 sperate posts a day with a single picture in each, then that would be bad. as it is, i can't see anything majorly wrong with what people are doing.

Nah, I actually do know that Alt+F4 changes the resolution of the screen down to minimum. But I'm not falling for it, Ruthven, you hear me ?!

Did you know that you can block people's posts on the forum? Like, the posts of a specific person. You go to their profile and press Alt+F4...

If I had checked this thread a couple of days earlier, I would have fallen for it.

For all it's worth, I rather enjoy their screen shots.

I can at least tell at my own expense
you quickly get a warning for posting a comment on the screen shots thread (yes, mea culpa)
Learning process, sigh

Indeed a more coherent sizing would be recommended
And gigantic sized image just makes the viewers lose the focus anyway, for it's out-framed from the viewable screen display, hence making their pictures much less interesting, not mentioning the longer loading time

I wonder is there any implemented functionality to automatically reduce the images to a viewable size as some other forums do, and a simple click will switch to the full resolution and vice-versa. But this will still not solve the issue of resource intensive problem.

@Fei Dao (飞刀?) : it's nice to put my screen shot as your example, thanks (BTW, I also read the whole thread about that CAT MOD II thing, sad). I think from your avatar picture, the (dao: 刀) would be a little too heavy to fly
