The science behind post counting

I hope I wasn´t to stupid to use the search function right now, because I couldn´t find anything about that topic. If I was,...sorry.

This question came up to me a while ago: What requirements does a post need to be counted?

I don´t get the system behind this whole post counting thing. Seems that only once in a while it´s credited as a post and multiple times it isn´t.

There has to be an evil world conspiracy for sure

To stay seriously, can anyone enlighten me?

I think it's Off-topic that does not count. And at least some language boards.

Yeah, offtopic forums don't count, outside of offtopic/software&hardware board (IIRC). If you want to find your actual post count, go into your Show Posts page and click to the last page of 'em. The big number'll show your actual post count (mine'll tick over to 4820 with this post!)

That´s how I noticed this effect.

So, Off-topic not counting.....what a pity. But that answers a lot.

Thanks guys

Just for reference though, post count doesn't affect anything whatsoever as far as the forum is concerned. Things such as forum rank or limitations to posting links or videos are instead tied to the amount of time you've spent on the forum.

I am definitely able to read the forum help section, and btw I did that
I was just wondering why there was such a big difference between what I posted and what was counted. Just did not find any information about this topic.

P.S. I usually tend to read stuff before I do anything in a forum. Boring and annoying but it helps a great deal

The reason off-topic doesn't contribute to post count (IIRC) is because - way back - ranks were tied to post count instead of time spent on the forum, and there was a sentiment that posts about things other than M&B shouldn't contribute to your forum rank. Plus, off-topic was where a large portion of the spamming occurred. I'd imagine it doesn't count now simply because nobody saw the need to change it.
