The October Revolution: The Most Significant Event Of The 20th Century?

I confused this with the October Crisis in Canada and wondered just what the **** people were thinking. Then again, Canadian terrorists were a pretty serious threat back in the day.

The October Revolution was extremely significant with the White movement losing to the Bolshevik movement, but most important of the 20th century is hard to determine.

I would barely disagree. The People's Republic of China defeating the Republic of China, I think, is a far more dangerous and long-lasting effect that can be noticed across the world, and their dictatorship will probably be in for a very long time. The question, I think, is whether the PRC would be better or worse if their founder did or did not model themselves after the USSR, and if they would have still won. Nobody can know that, though, unless a time traveler would please stand up at this 01/04/2012.

Current dictators who study the USSR would be limited to studying the past, but they can look all the way to the Chinese civil war and far beyond for inspiration from the PRC. I'm sure even the DPRK copied the PRC more than the USSR. I'm mostly convinced that the PRC's longevity will make it more influential by the time it finally dies out, if and whenever that is.

I would agree with this if USSR was limiting their actions within their borders instead of screwing up half of the Europe with communism. So October Revolution did shape world history and I don't think PRC is anywhere near that, only thing that can happen is that their cheap labor force becomes more expensive which could have large impact on world economy since all major companies have most of their productions there.

They aren't right now, but I feel like at the end of the PRC's lifespan they'll be more influential. It's all hypothetical, so I could end up being terribly wrong or somewhat right and it's a gamble. Still, a dictatorship, the highest population of 2.1 billion, an improving economy with increasingly higher wages, easily conscripted people, enough people to start a revolution and win by numbers (in theory).

Sounds to me like timed explosives that are just waiting for someone to touch them or try to disarm them. Dictatorships never end peacefully.

Sometimes it's worth taking the time to read historical branch of the forum

The best joke Ive ever heard!

Whose who tell bout atomic bomb and empire's clash in 1914 might just answer two questions:
Could A-bomb abolish private property?
Could any of two world wars not just move the boundaries and reallocate world goods and markets but change the nature of the production?
No, Im afraid.
