The "Nooby" things in Warband.

Before the beta was opened, I had a thread about what might be "nooby" about Warband.

Well, after a week or so from playing, here is the list of complaints...

Spears
Axes
2h Swords
Crossbows
Spamming Throwing Weapons

Completely different from what I thought would be an overpowering couch lance.

So for those who complain, here are some tips to beat them.

Spears-Get close, and then hit them up close.
Axes-Forget shields, get out your fastest weapon, and wait for them to strike first, then strike back as much as you can.
2H Swords-They ain't got nothing to protect them from missles. Pepper them from a distance.
Crossbows-Now these are the tricky ones. Either shoot back with a bow, or get a decent shield, not the crappy free one that is useless anyways.
Spamming Throwing Weapons-Same as spears, get up close and nail them.

The problem with throwing weapons is that typically they're coming from someone who also has a big ****ing axe. Your shield gets battered by the throwing weapons, then he pulls out that big axe and it's gone.

That, or you close the distance and they just keep backpedaling and throwing. It really sucks when you pull back to swing at a guy who's less than a foot away from you, and he just throws an axe in your face.

C'mon, if you're that close just fight like a man.

Ah you are talking of the naked ones? That backpedal faster than you can... frontpedal? In that case, back off, and make them miss I guess.

I don't believe he was complaining, but rather documenting what much of the general community feels is "noobish".

Actually he is right not annoying. I made a list on what generally I see people complaining about in chat, and then gave ways of countering them.

The spears aren't nooby, it's just that you can spam 'em faster than most other weapons. If you can take down a nord veteran with a huscarl's shield using only your war spear, you've got some skill in my book.

Personally, I think using a pike as a weapon against infantry takes skill. I tend to be rather effective with it, as well, as long as I'm with a group. I can poke somebody with it when they're fighting someone else, and they don't expect it.

In fact, I sometimes spawn with just a pike as a Swadian Infantryman. I might take a bastard sword in case I get in a really tight spot, but I love that pike.

I'm with Orion 100%.  Spears aren't like two-handed axes, wherein constant spamming will destroy the enemy's shield quite quickly.  A good swordsman with a shield will usually take out a good spearman.  Bad swordsmen get cocky and take out their two handed axe, and the spearman promptly kills them, usually.

I'm the only Gobblecoque I've ever seen in the beta. To your second question, I suppose that how annoying I am is in the eyes of the beholder. Though I haven't been playing as often as I would like, due to a combination of recent versions being rather unstable and me getting a one-two punch of Swine Flu and Strep Throat.

Yeah I have a fondness for the pole weapons, I normally switch between the war spear and the pike. Depends what mood I'm in really.

true in group pikes can be effective, they make you a great suportive person, when a friend is being attacked by a swadian or nord with a huge sword or axe, you can help him by poking the Nord/swadian giving your friend room to land some blows, or run away if he's scared, and if you are lucky, you poke the ennemy to death

Good thread. FYI to those who did not read carefully: He is not complaining about these, he's stating rebuttals to these complainers.

I just got off of a server with some EU guy *****ing about every single non-melee weapon in the game. I just kept laughing at him until he left the server  . But I supposed making threads explaining on how these weapons aren't currently overpowered is a bit more constructive

I feel my life is pretty easy when I'm a naked Swadian with a 2 handed sword. One shot, one kill, and I don't even go past the free 2-h Bastard Sword, or the heavy version. It's fast, mighty, has a good reach and you can swirl it and spam it around.
