For a long time we've had alcohol and various drugs to escape our miserable lives.
But more and more addictions make headlines.
We've seen gambling and sex addiction, and in recent years (online) gaming, and even internet addiction.
And with obesity on the rise: food addiction.

So what will be the next big addiction to make headlines?

Domestic sciences hopefully. >.>

What can I say, I am truley English at heart. (Gardening+ Fishing+ Cooking = ENGLAND!)

You forgot to add porn addiction to the list.

Wasn't really a list, just brainstorm

Buxton 说:
Artificial reality addiction.
So kind of like online gaming addiction, The Sims or something...

Social addiction. Some people can't live without contact with other people for an extended amount of time, and might quite well go mad from it.

Underground addiction. Some people get so used to being underground they throw up all over the place whenever they come into contact with the surface.

Not that anyone cares about my opinion...

I've noticed in recent years in the United States an addiction to entertainment - television, computer games, facebook/social networks - all which supplant interaction with the first person. Because of the huge amount of choices in distraction from our lives, I think that in the US people have stepped away from intimacy, not the sexual kind, but the emotional commitment to neighbors, freinds, and family members. Kinda also reflected in the amount of texting and sms we do, rather than call and talk with someone.

Having been been in both Korea and  Afghanistan for extended periods, and socializing with various cultures (Serbs, Croats, Kosovar Albanians, various European, Russian, etc) I observed that the cultures that have little materialism and the connection to created entertainment like movies on demand or internet games have fuller lives, and place more value on relationships. Their addictions were social activities and family. So 'addictions' are probably cultural.

The next addiction in the United States, maybe the western world, will be entertainment related, probably three dimensional immersive games, movies, and television (3D entertainment in the home). I'm in agreement with Buxton, Gaham, and Llandy targeting a particular item; I'm just of the opinion it's more of a general addiction to avoid actually interacting with other people on a personal level.

Kind of like posting at Taleworlds. maw
