the new death in battle sucks

I think it's a great feature. It forces you to change your playstyle and not have some super-soldiers which you can rely on in every battle. The companion mechanic itself is really overpowered, so there has to be some type of drawback to balance it. You can't have your cake and eat it

I don't understand why people complain about this, if you want ez-mode just play on lower settings or put them in a separate formation and simple leave/retreat them.
While I have zero issues with death in battle. I'm going to play devil's advocate for a second and say that putting companions into a separate group is fine but there are issues with that. First there is no captains bonus if you do, which is fine. Second it doesn't matter what group you put them in during sieges they'll still go in and get killed even if you give them bows/crossbows.

Agree, sieges are broken overall so I forgot to take them into account lol. I always auto-resolve them

I think it would be good to enable a "non-combatant" tag that takes (individual) Companions off the battlefield entirely. They would not count for Leadership limits and would be captives if you lose, because they're back with your baggage train. I especially want to protect my Clan jobs-holders: Scout, Surgeon, Quartermaster, Engineer. I can't say how many times my Surgeon has been laid out - death would be even worse. A critically-wounded Surgeon is just no damn good, and such Companions have minimal fighting ability.

I would actually challenge the 10% death rate. Since it was enabled, every single battle when one of my companions has been "knocked out" on the scoreboard, 100% of the time they die after it goes to the world map. Every. Single. Time. There have been battles where I would purposely put every single companion in a custom group and left at the back of the battle, far away from any fighting. None involved in the fighting and obviously none knocked out per the scoreboard. Once I finish and go to the world map, THREE DEAD. WTF?? I have stopped playing and will stay away until this is fixed. The time invested in recruiting, progressing their skills, finding them decent gear, gone when they aren't even in the fighting. I have no issue with a smaller death rate, I save before most battles anyway but this is ridiculous.

Well this sounds like a bug which they are looking for. You should make a report here https://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php?forums/mount-blade-ii-bannerlord.528/, the faster we find the bugs the faster we get them to lower the rate supposedly

I think the 10% death rate should be confined to the BETA branch of the game, let the live version have the 2% death rate they are planning.

that is why they MADE a BETA branch early in the games life cycle, so testing, using drastic changes (like a 10% death rate) wouldn’t affect the main stable branches gameplay.

Hello,

any news on this? I had character death disabled, but after an update my companions and other characters are dying in battle...
Looks like there is STILL no option to disable this.

It is possible the game defaulted to ENABLE DEATH because there were changes in the mechanics. If you start a new game there are more options for this (although the 100% no companion death is bugged currently).

I am not sure if it is possible to deactivate it again, check in your options.

Yep, most have defaulted after some breaking change update.

No options in the campaign settings or main settings to disable companions/characters death. They should add something asap... Don't really want to start a new campaign.

the problem with deaths in this game is that it only happens in player involved battles. so if you take your kingdom's army to fight a bunch of battles. all your vassal lords will be dead while the enemy factions will still have most of their lords unless you focus on taking out one enemy kingdom at a time and recruit all their remaining lords to your faction.
