Good afternoon.
For anyone interested in the 9th century setting AND plays Medieval 2 TW, consider downloading The Last Kingdoms http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?467534-The-Last-Kingdom-DOWNLOADS. I've played it for a couple of hours and the immersion is amazing, absolute thorough work in the lore department, much like Viking Conquest. Much like VC, the world map goes from Ireland to Norway and Denmark, but also extending East a bit towards the Baltic and a footing South in Normandy. Check this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7-sgc0Ohms, from 2:00 to 2:58, to check a quick overview of the choosable factions.
Only downside I met was the taking of towns. The melee between units draws out, unlike the vanilla, something which I love in open battle, but in sieges it takes SO long to clear a townsquare, with unroutable defenders.
