Are those the models that are available for download from one of those model sites?

I seem to remember an aragorn and elf head and some banners. Not sure about the witch king helm though. That would be the only useful one really for these purposes. Im on my laptop but still cant see any images, im guessing you didnt post pics. Any chance you can post a pic of the witch king helm?

Anyway, with luck Im about a week away from a first release of this. Models are still needed for the future though when we have the ability to import them.

Ok, heres a LOTR update. Once I get some textures imported on to new meshes, ill release it ( tommorrow with luck). The first release will be an alpha release really as there is alot of balancing to do with the war system in all likelihood.

Features:

--Strategic war system with faction elimination. As the power of a faction wanes they get fewer troops and eventually risk falling into ruin. Faction strength can be recovered through time or a great victory over the enemy. If Rohan and Gondor fall, Isengard and Mordor declare war on each other.

--8 factions partaking in the war, you can belong to one of four major factions. Each faction is tracked in the strategic war script. Major: Mordor, Isengard, Rohan, Gondor. Lesser factions: Haradrim, Easterlings, Corsairs of Umbar, Dunlanders. A variety of very minor factions as well of course but their fortunes arent tracked in the war.Mordor itself can never be totally defeated and the best victory condition that Rohan, Gondor or Isengard can hope for is to defeat all of their other enemies and reduce Mordor to "spent and wavering".

--Great Hosts from the four major factions that actively pursue the war. Their behavior will change depending on the current state of the war.

--Order allied armies around in the field at the cost of faction influence. You can order them to hold, follow you, or go to a specific place.

--Faction influence system. You gain influence with your faction at a weekly rate based on your rank. These points can be spent as follows:

1) To order allied armies in the field.
2) To gain access to rewards from the armory
3) To refuse missions
4) To recruit experienced units from the lords.

--Extra quests for each faction (basic mag-7 style ones at the moment) with a few brand new missions that depend on certain events in the war.

--Eight major troop trees (major/minor factions) each with 12-15 troop upgrades.

--Game begins pre-war. This gives the player time to pursue missions and gain strength before all hell breaks loose.

--Lotr skins, names, etc. A few skins at first, more later. Hopefully new models at some point.

--The war is controlled with several easily accessed constants so you can make for as long or short a game as you want.

To do

Import the textures on cloned meshes. Once I have a dozen in or so, Ill release it.

Heroes.. not in yet.

Couple of other cool things I have yet to fully implement.

Cant remember... some little stuff.

Excellent, I'm definitely looking forward to this. There are a few things I'd like to point out, though.

Ancientwanker 说:
In the entire saga, including the silmarillion, lost tales, etc, there is no mention of a breastplate and hundreds of references to hauberks.

There's one thing I've always wondered about: throughout the book, Gimli is said to be outfitted in a corslet of dwarven make. The word was unfamiliar to me so I looked it up, and here's what I got:

Dictionary.com 说:
corslet

n : a piece of body armor for the trunk; usually consists of a breastplate and back piece

It does say "usually", but it's always struck me as being a bit odd. On a completely unrelated note, it's Dunlendings, not Dunlanders.

Another thing is the map. Some of the cities are placed somewhat dodgily (Osgiliath is a bit too far from Minas Tirith, Edhellond is inland, etc) and there are all kinds of minor inaccuracies, which are of course to be expected, but there are a few things that had me wondering:

1. You've axed the Anduin southwards of Sarn Gebir. What's that about? :???:

2. You have the Wold (The area in between Fangorn and Anduin) as grasslands. I thought that area was pretty desolate? Could be wrong, though.

3. There's no Snowbourn or Entwash. Not as big an issue as the missing Great River, though.

4. The Eastfold is where you've got Aldburg, the Eastfold Inn looks like it's in Anórien.

5. You have the Dead Marshes and Wetwang as steppe.

6. You have the Westfold mixed up with the Westmarch, which is in the Shire.

7. The West-Emnet is a bit too far East.

8. I don't exactly understand why tribal orcs spawn in western Gondor, or what they are for that matter.

9. It looks like you have rangers spawning in the Wold. If they're Aragorn's northern rangers (The Grey Company) then I guess it makes sense, but what about the rangers of Ithilien?

That's all I can think of right now. I used this map to check those out.

All in all, the map's looking good and I'm very excited indeed about this mod. Here's hoping it all works out.

As far as gimli wearing plate..
Gimli the dwarf alone wore openly a short shirt of steel-rings, for dwarves make light of burdens; and in his belt was a broad-bladed axe. Legolas had a bow and a quiver, and at his belt a long white knife. The younger hobbits wore the swords that they had taken from the barrow; but Frodo took only Sting; and his mail-coat, as Bilbo wished, remained hidden. Gandalf bore his staff, but girt at his side was the elven-sword Glamdring, the mate of Orcrist that lay now upon the breast of Thorin under the Lonely Mountain.
They were all furnished by Elrond with thick warm clothes, and they had jackets and cloaks lined with fur.

I believe at one point bilbo is also referred to as having a corslet of linked rings.. his mithril shirt. Im pretty sure plate wasnt Tolkiens thing. Jackson used plate in the movie to create more visual differences between the factions. Ive cheated myself and included crossbows on the corsairs... for now. My imagination failed me making all those f****** units.

Its Dunlanders too, I use several names for them in different places. Dunnish, Dunlendings, Dunlanders, Dunmen. Seeing as they come from Dunland. Troops are Dunnish x for economy of space. Armies I call x of Dunlanders. Leaders refer to the Dunlendings I think when giving was reports.

"Westmarch" was a last minute thing to get it out of the way. Its really Underharrow if you go inside of it but having a valley city south of Edoras turned out to be an AI pain. Ill change the name when I do the final pass.

The Anduin isnt in until I can test how it affects the AI guys. I might have it in for the first release, maybe not. I need to determine how many fords Ill need to keep the AI happy. I havent had the time to play with it.

I moved a few places, like edhellond (just moved it an hour ago) to better space the map. There are also many rivers missing and some like the entwash have been moved way north to act as a boundary.

Heh, I used the exact same map you provided. Even though ive spent 99% of my time coding the strategy scipts, I know the map pretty well at this point. Most of the changes are there for gameplay reasons. Tolkien didnt need to bound his story with rivers and mountains to keep Saruman from conquering the north pole. I do. The map has to be bounded, its that simple. That and the AI is strangely drawn to rivers and likes to get stuck humping them for hours.

There is no way to do the marshes so I just extended the hilly wastes from the Emyn muil. When new textures can be brought in, ill redo that area.

Then again, the whole map is too small for this area. At some point Ill have to push the camera back and redo the whole thing. Its the thing I probably spent the least time on but its pretty good I think.

It looks like you have rangers spawning in the Wold. If they're Aragorn's northern rangers (The Grey Company) then I guess it makes sense, but what about the rangers of Ithilien?

Yeah, I have rangers from the north in fangorn for now but they dont appear until the war begins. There are also two spawns for the ithilien rangers in the forests north and south of minas morgul. Things like the tribal orcs I have no idea what they are, they sound like orcs that live in a tribe though. Many of the minor spawns were just renamed, retrooped and moved to the periphery for now. Once the last core element is in place (textures) and the mod is out, ill look at stuff like that.

Wow, this is awesome.

I made some orc and gondorian skins a while ago. The Orc skins are on the undead model, but I fixed the weird had thig and darkened and desaturated them a bit more than what's currently posted, which can be found thourgh my sig. I made some orc armor to go with it. All mail, but with some pieces of solid metal attached.

There are Gondorian skins, all mail. I've got different skins for ordinary soldiers, lossnarach axemen, rangers, and citadel guards, along with some shields.

I also experimented with balance between the orc and godorian factions. The orcs had usually crappy units which the better Gondoria units could plow through, but Nazgul (a very limited amount, placed 1-3 in war parties) were real, real tough and had high points in tactics. Of course, you probably already have the balance figured out.

I can't post the gondor skin screenshots for until late Sundar, but the orc screenies can be seen though a link in my sig.

If your at all interested in any of this, feel free to pm me. I'd be happy to let you use it.

EDIT: I could also make some more skins if you need or want them.

Looks great.
How long did it take you to figure out Python to make it do all these things?

I started playing with the scripts about a week after they came out. I have one or two cool ideas I havent implemented yet and one that depends on Armagan adding a code that he said he would (yah!).

I think Ive got a pretty good grasp of certain aspects of the scripts and others I havent even looked at yet.

Ive got quite a few textures to put in that Ive already done but by all means send me a shot of what youve got. I dont have nearly enough to be honest, but enough to release a barebones version at least.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I remember, you did the original orc thing way back when. That lamellar is kind of cool, I wouldnt mind having a look at it. Ive got an open lamellar slot I was intending to use for orc heavy armor. Until now ive just been using it for a few variants of haradrim with bronze armor.

Your orc is cool, especially the body. Right now im using a orc faces ripped from morrowind, on the undead body too. I could certainly use your textured body with the fixed hand as right now all the orcs need to wear leather gloves. Hopefully the importer will soon allow for an orc texture on a human body who doesnt have the pants issue.

It seems really great, with the new system. Good job, you're still the Master of Triggers.

HYW has a few long rivers with one or two bridges only, the AI handles it rather correctly, just expect to have a crapload of battles around the fords/bridges (which is realistic for LOTR after all). I'd suggest 4 bridges : Osgiliath, Cair Andros, one in the delta, one at the north near Amon Hen.

Ok, if it works in your mod Ill throw the Anduin in before I release it. If that plays well Ill try putting the Entwash in. Four crossings sounds a bit right.

Heh, yeah, some aspects of the script I dont have a clue about but I can write triggers in my sleep.

No, I was going to wait on that, ive got enough to do with just putting other junk in. Ive just got an orc texture pasted on the undead right now.. Just a face really. If crazed rabbit gives me his fixed orc/undead body I wont have to have the orcs wear gloves.

Well, I successfully added a new body entry for orc into the naked_meshes1.brf file. It needs work though, the hands don't match the color of the skin :p

What I mean is, I successfully added an entirely new body type, orc, to the list. So now there are orc, human male/female, and undead.

for this mod i would be quite happy to model props, or any other smaller models you need. Not AS happy about skinning them unless its an easy jobby

Oh, thats very cool. Let me know what happens with it. Ill probably be ready for a release sometime tommorrow night so ill let you know when Im done and see how its going.
