In particular i am talking about 2 handers. Because this game is so amazing people never quit and the skill levels ends up getting so high that u have to put in tons of hours to compete.

I have no idea how much hours i have put into this game in the six months i've had it, but i believe in order to be viable you would have to put in over 300 hours.  It u want to be pro.... like 1000k

the game is just too hard...

I mean, if your good, your good. Hours upon hours doesn't help a lot of people.

Kinda but no one just comes in and mows through pros the first day (Cept Lord Rhade, he was killing everything at age 3)

Practicing and playing you will become better over a long time

Get someone good to train you, won't take that long actually.
Depends on your motivation and whether you are a fast learner.

I've got around 2k hours of gameplay: 1,3k in Xfire and almost 500 in steam, plus some randoms times I played without anything in the background to count hours. And I'm still bad as ****.

Also: It's easier if someone teaches you the basics and maybe gives some high-end advice, but what matters the most is the abilty to improve by yourself.

If the amount hours put in playing Warband would correlate directly to how good one is, I should be like the best player there is. Unfortunately I am still a "good" player, nowhere near perfect or even great.

Steam claims that I've played 6,112.5 hrs of Warband

And I do have this thing called life too

I'm with M & B since 2008, Steam says 1700h, but I played a lot before Steam.
I don't think that the time you played the game has as much effect on your game-play as your will to learn and improve. Well with time you'll get used to the game and the fighting, but you also need to learn to out-smart the opponent with tactics or techniques like spinning, fake attacks and etc...

I have only 950hrs in steam and 2000 +- hrs nonsteam. Still I fail so damn often.

Thats why Warband is awesome game. Everything needs practise.

It takes anywhere from 300-500 hours to 'get' the game. By then you should know ranges and speed of at least the most common weapons, and be able to subconsciusly account for them in combat. You should be able to block instinctively, and survive most feintspam. From then on in, you probably won't make much more progress. You'll learn the fighting styles and tricks of common players, and develop your own devious tricks! which are tremendous skills to have, but the ceiling for raw skill is actually rather early.

Note that roleplaying, most mods, singleplayer and the majority of servers will not be as trying as other uses of your warband hours such as playing in clan matches or on servers like IG/nditions.

Hours of the game do not always indicate your skill but I think it's a fair enough indicator to gauge a players or clans ability.

Generally speaking, multiplayer games are only as hard as your opponents. You can hop on Call of Duty and get a few kills, decide the game is easy and move on but you'd probably be even further from the top level of play than in Warband.

Make sure nothing about your setup is hindering you (disable vsync, get a half decent pc/monitor/kb+m) and keep at it. You'll improve over time.

Joining a clan is also a great way of improving quickly since you'll consistently encounter relatively high-level play.

I've been playing for months and I was just average, if that, and then, a funny thing - My friend transformed my skills in literally 30 minutes, merely by explaining the role of every move/swing and telling me to use the mouse to swing and block, instead of the keyboard. Soon after, I helped my other friend transform his in 10. Well, with a one handed sword that is, I still suck with two handers of any kind .

I absolutely dominate in native mb and wfas, hell, I even fare relatively well in the Vikingr mod, which should be the greatest test of your skill at arms.

If you'd like me to explain the same thing to you, add me on steam. Ivan6285/YourStepDad.

as mahud said the best way to go about it is just to get someone half decent to train you. If you do this and play a reasonable amount you can have passable blocking skills pretty fast, at least enough to start improving faster on your own,
