So 80s music came up elsewhere.  Did a search and didn't find a thread dedicated to 80s music.  People tend to love or hate the 80s.  This thread accommodates both.  Post up links to songs/vids you love or hate.  Rant, rave or gtfo.

So many to love, here's a handful:

The Romantics What I Like About You http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvHKjDKY_O8
Berlin Sex http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raq8maAutAE
Romeo Void Never Say Never http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePIImGMjn_8
Billy Idol Rebel Yell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToeY7MkCm0c
Pretenders Brass in Pocket http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1eqR8uMHIE

Saga On the Loose http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2glFe0sY_y4
Thomas Dolby The Key to Your Ferrari http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dh0DyS7DO9I&feature=related  - couldn't find Budapest by Blimp

And a few I hate:

The Go Gos Head Over Heels http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9nqCM8Ito8
Ratt Round and Round http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYDc9Q74Y9A
Milli Vanilli Girl You Know It's True http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rH80nNixmE&feature=related
The Buggles Video Killed the Radio Star http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKJHRisppCo
Men at Work Who Can It Be Now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swQi4CAzmrA

Fortunately I've forgotten most of the ones I hate.  I just spaz and rage when I hear them.

Surely these must be included:

Fad Gadget (Frank Tovey): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTkOScXmkOc

The Cure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8CDERzun4k

Depeche Mode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Smja5QnFR9U

Joy Division: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flVEoNuEYgE&feature=related

Love the 80's, second favourite decade after the 70's.

Aerosmith
Cold Chisel
Crowded House
Dire Straits
ELO
Foreigner
G'n'R
Huey Lewis And The News (BTTF ftw)
INXS
Journey
KISS
Meatloaf
Split Enz
The Police
Toto
Van Halen

And many, many more awesome bands and artists.

I'd never heard/seen the Fad Gadget clip Adorno, thanks for that.  Man, there sure are a lot of people who hate Bono, lol.  Despite his 'tude, Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree are favorite albums of mine from this era.

Nice list Niv, I love the majority of those bands (don't think I've heard of Cold Chisel, will need to hunt them up).  Approaching 40, I went with a bunch of work m8s to see a KISS concert on the tour where they went back to being in costume and did all their old stuff.  It was awesome to be in the middle of so many "oldies" getting stoned in the parking lot and an arena packed full of 30+ headbangers going nuts over Deuce, Detroit Rock City, God of Thunder and the Shock Me solo, et al.  Good times.

Doe maar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_O5KCJjdyE
another of their songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f15dEJgC-nU
god I loved them! still do

I admit, the 80s are pretty damn glitzy and generally pretty damn awesome, however, I've never really been into all this pop stuff, though it's good stuff.

Anyway, a list would have to be more about the rock and metal scene of the time (and death metal):

Metallica
Megadeth
Slayer
Pantera
Aerosmith
Pink Floyd (though their stuff was getting less good)
Supertramp
Guns n' Roses
Morbid Angel
Mayhem
David Bowie also, though don't know if he was still kicking at that time
AC/DC

As you can see, that's in no particular order. All in all, that was a great decade, and cannot compare musically to the **** we have today.

Forgot about:

Duran Duran: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9FaY4Jie0Y

A-ha: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYeFWmc21Fc

And of course Roxy Music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iuGiLOy1jA&feature=related (Short version, but the film is good...)

And a few I hate:

Interesting choice :p

I listen to far too many different things, and like them too !

Seriously, though, it's worrying at times ...

Motorhead (everything), and Akira, a 1988 anime flick that spawned all modern anime as we know it (despite being almost completely different) and is probably the only animated piece of film from Japan I have ever enjoyed.

Stuff I hated: Everything else

Toto: Africa:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPT_3PEjnsE

Men at work: Land down under: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNT7uZf7lew

MY ALL TIME FAOURITE:
Right said Fred: I'm too sexy:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39YUXIKrOFk

That was kind of my theme song from when I was 8 untill I was 15 When fed drunk enough, I can be persuaded to karaoke this!

EDIT:

Karma Chameleon culture club: I'm straight, but I never had a score as high as when singing this in singstar, When I was younger I wanted to look just like him, I thought he looked sympatethic, and cute (in a heterosexual way) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xmyb1_culture-club-karma-chameleon_music

Army of lovers: Crucified: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYT2aWavXlc

Wow Arch, you are a lot more diverse musically that I'd have imagined.  Don't Stop Believin' ??  I'd have never guessed that one would make it to your list.  That's one of my younger brother's old-time Faves.  Been enjoying many of the links in your first post.  Not too familiar with them.  As a working musician I had to focus on so much of the pop stuff that I didn't get to investigate a lot of the fringe 80s bands, many of which I'm finding are quite good.  Thanks for those.

Akira--that was a very interesting flick.

I resisted posting Michael Jackson and some of the other more mainstream pop 80s stars cuz I figured others would.

Ah, Land Down Under--that one was ok, but I heard and had to play "Who Can It Be Now" so many times that I tend to go migraine instantly if I hear it now.

Oh yeah, Bowie was definitely still kickin'.  Let's Dance was a major "instant-pack-the-dancefloor" hit at that time, along with several others from that album.

I grew up in a mining town where the only entertainment for anyone under drinking age was the local park, and it shut at 6. Apart from the odd school disco and the radio about the only other form of entertainment was the collection and trade of C-90's, and since most albums lasted half an hour people tended to fill the remaining thirty minutes with whatever they could get; I remember one tape I had the Jackson 5 on one side and Talking Heads on the other, which made for rather interesting listening. TV was the same. The art of targeting TV to a youth audience was still only vaguely understood by the old farts at the Beeb,  so you'd get Kylie Minogue playing one slot, followed ten minutes later by Peter Gabriel. Kind of mad when you look back at it now, but I suppose I got exposed to a huge range of music

Probably just me getting old, but music certainly lost some of it's zest by the mid nineties. Can't remember the last time I listened to a music station.

C-90s, heh.  Still have a few, original tracks and partials I recorded ages ago that don't exist on anything else.  Thought maybe I'd revisit them using modern gear someday, assuming I ever get over my self-inflicted music-playing ban.

Not sure if it's personal decrepitude or a true lack of ingenuity in modern music, but it's been a long, long time for me too since anything grabbed and held my attention.

More 80s wack:

+Few other songs I couldn't find I video of.

The biggest difference between 80s and modern pop is that the singers in the 80s could perform live really good. Check the Tears for Fears vid, for example.
