The Horde Lands v1.22 released!!

Here is my review of the mod so far, and some suggestions.  Un-asked for I know.

1. Now that I can play a dark elf without breasts, this mod rocks.

More review and actual suggestions...

2. Every mod has a little different feel of weapons, because of skins and combat mechanics.  Some mods like Prophesy of Pendor favor pole-arms more.  Some, like Native Expansion, give shield bash and speer mount-in-the-ground-instant-death-to-charging-cavalry.  It seems (although I may be wrong) that in this mod armor protects less...especially against piercing damage.  It just seems that some average soldiers can quickly kill my lvl 32 chainmail wearing character.  And that's pretty cool.

3. Speaking about weapons, there are some good new models.

4. Map is cool.  Races are very cool.  Non-horse steads are great.  Kingdom management is not the best implimentation, but its there.

5. New quests and dungeon are works in progress, but I like.  I don't know the end result, but I like the ability to flirt with the bar-girl in Dragon Tooth...I would like to see more of that.

6. I don't like the magic system.  There I said it.  Its a little too...conventional.  YOu can shoot flame.  You can heal.  You can become more uber-powered.  And yet...that's sort of conventional.  You can do that in other FPS.  I think in the original Magic mod, that mod put a 20lb encumbrance limit on characters... I think that at least would push character differentiation.

7. I think that this mod has the basics down.  And I can see that there is going to be focus on dungeons and quests.  But I think what would make this mod better is more innovation.  Its innovative in its way now.  But I feel that this is a great start that can become better by trying to put other game elements in it.

Some ideas:
Allow player to designate a capital city in which he could build a "Wizard Tower".  From that tower, cast map effect spells.  Spells like:
-increasing relations with a town or faction.
-summoning demonic heros.
-destroy (pillage, but no loot) a village
-end a seige
-reduce food supply of a besieged castle or town
-increase population growth for a time
-teleport

I also think that more combat elements and interesting magics can be implimented.  I mentioned before about putting in the troop moral script, but only turn it on when a player (or enemy)  casts a "fear" spell

Anyway, this is now my favorite mod.

That is a work in progress. That end result will eventually be marriage (the dialog option is already there, but currently it does nothing) and possibly kids (effect on the game not yet determined).

I agree it is currently a little too easy to learn spells. I'm considering adding an Intelligence requirement and making trainers a little more...selective about their students. There is SUPPOSED to be an encumbrance limit, though I've never actually tested it.

I have plans to add a single Custom Settlement for the player to use as a base of operations, but that is going to take some time to implement.

-summoning demonic heros.
That is also planned. Both for generic demon troops and companion(s).

And while you are it add a Demonic faction, that would be grand.

A faction, maybe. But I don't think I'll be adding any more kingdoms. Mainly because that would require expanding the map, but also because demons would be more likely to influence, corrupt and take over an existing kingdom.

Hmmm... Okay how about a massive demonic invasion attacks nearby kingdoms and conquering them, say after 100 days the demons start to mess with one or several kingdoms? If you dont want or want to add demons, it does not matter because this is already a great piece of work!

Well, that's not a bad idea, but I think it would be better suited to be a consequence of a quest instead of a timed event. As in: OK, you found the long-lost sword of the demon king who was slain centuries ago. Now that the sword's power has reawakened, the demons sense it and come looking for it. The attacks could be small at first (a demon ambush replacing the bandit ambush that occurs randomly when you enter a town), but the attacks grow increasingly stronger unless the player can somehow track down and destroy the source of the demon invasion (a new demon king, a dimensional gateway, or simply walking into Mordor and casting the sword into a volcano...).

because this is already a great piece of work!
Thank you!

cool so 1.22 is released at last!i`m downloading it..besides your suggestion is great keedo i think u should do it...i like it that the game lets the moders change the game that much..much like creating a entire new game

Hmm, i can see it ahead of me, (if the faces are randomly generated) your 10 year old son with a full length beard

MAYBE IS ALREADY KNOW BUT, I FOUND A BUG, SOME ARMYS GET STUCK NEAR THE MOUNTAINS, AND OTHERS TRY TO SIEGE SEAHEAVEN.
ANYWAY NICE WORK, THE MOD IS GREAT.
SORRY FOR BAD ENGLISH

Yes, that bug is known. It is related to the lords attempting to chase down pirates and corsairs, and in some cases, attempting to siege the pirate-controlled town of Seahaven (which is located on the ocean). I am working on a fix for it.

Did you forgot to deactivate caps lock? Some forumites can't write english very well, but you can always use spellcheck.

Hey Keedo. Congratulations on the new version(i know it came out a while ago now). May I ask what the underwater scene is for? Or is it's purpose to add more places to the mod?

Great mod so far. Here's a suggestion, an idea from another mod: each night undead Lords and Greygor gets new low-tier undead troops and upgrades a certain number of troops. It'll make it look as though the undead keeps multiplying in numbers. I'd prefer the pirates deadly because they have guns but undead superior because they have unlimited numbers.

The wraith stone is too much of a cheat compared to book of necromancy. I took over tomestone with just 10 troops and kept using the wraith stone to summon more undead troops. The book of necromancy is useless...

What's the thing that Necromos guy wants after finding him the book of lost spells? He said if I bring it to him then his buddy must be dead. And what other spells am I missing? The guide said skald teaches you high level fire spells but he only taught me 1 soar ray spell, not spellS.

Well, it is setup so that the parties of wandering undead in the kingdom of Morte convert prisoners into undead at night, but I never got around to making that work for Morte lord parties.

The Wraith Stone was not meant for players. It was only meant for the Wraith in the dungeon. Where did you get it?

Skald also teaches Burning Trail (which leaves a trail of fire behind you as you move) and Wall Of Fire. Once you've learned all of his spells, he will give you the Red Kindle Sceptre (which is called the Ruby Sceptre in the item description). That is the item Necronus is looking for. There may be a bug with his dialogue (or related scripts) for learning certain spells, as some people such as yourself have reported not being able to learn any of his spells, but I have tested and learned all of his spells so it is hard to say what the problem is at this point. I'm kind of on vacation from working on the mod, but I'm going to get back into playtesting it again soon to work out the remaining bugs in the current version (such as the lords trying to siege seahaven or attack corsairs/pirates).

I killed the wraith and got that stone. Was that wraith not suppose to be killable?

I couldn't find the book of lost spells and mysterious medal so I just used cheats to get it lol. Where were they hidden?

I also saw this flying broom in the item list. Is that ingame? Searched black market merchants, sanctuary and most merchants but can't find it.

And why am I not able to use spells when dueling Greygor? Haven't tried dueling others but for him I couldn't bring up the spells menu. Pressing 6-0 doesn't bring spell menu up.   I got my ass kicked because I carried only a wand thinking I'd kick his ass using spells... ended having to run and use my fist.

I looked through at least half the pages for something on this but is there a way to get orc armor while playing as an Orc?  The body being shrunk down while wearing normal armor makes it look weird and I want some of that armor

Hmm. Oh he's definitely meant to be killable, but that doesn't make sense. If you picked it up off of the ground after he died, it would not remain in your inventory after you left the dungeon (just like when you pick up weapons during an outdoor battle or in the arena), so I don't see how you could have used it during a siege.

Mysterious Medal is given to you by the Bazeck village elder after you learn most of her spells (I think she gives it to you before learning the final spell, but I forget). The Book Of Lost Spells is in King Harlas' (sp?) inventory. You can only get it by capturing him in battle and talking to him while he's your prisoner.

The flying broom can be bought from Faze in the ruins of Dragon's Death (not the dungeon). He only spawns at night, but unless you applied the merchant fix that I posted in the development forum for this mod on Exilian, his inventory (as well as the other black market merchants) will not be properly updated. But the Flying Broom was experimental. Something I picked out of the Steampunk OSP I think. It doesn't really "fly" in the sense you might hope. It's really just a normal mount that looks like a broom floating above the ground at the same level the player would be sitting on a horse. The only difference between it and a normal mount is that it is faster, has no armor, and gives a bonus to mana regeneration while equipped. On the downside, like with any other mount, you can accidentally kill it by casting spells that travel along the ground. Spells like Fireball and Searing Ray won't affect it because they travel through the air, but spells like Wave will start on the ground directly in front of you, but since your horse is also there it will be damaged by the spell. It would be possible for me to exclude horses from the spells effects, but then it wouldn't affect enemy mounts either.

I didn't put the magic triggers in arena fights on purpose. Magic would make duels way too easy. Especially if you learned Cure. And I think in most fantasy societies, using magic in a duel would be considered dishonorable unless it was a magic duel..... Now THAT is something I had not thought of. I could add new arena fights for dueling magic opponents. That could be quite fun.

Orc armor can be found on the orc black market merchant, the sanctuary armor merchant, and possibly in treasure chests in the dungeon. However, you will need to apply the merchant bug fix I posted in my mod's development forum or else their inventories will not update properly.
