Honestly I dont mind the colours, only if they were more subtle. For example the yellow is WAY too much.

I totally agree. The colors are way to bright. Nice idea, in my opinion, but could be done better.

I think it should depend on the faction! Some cultures tend more towards brighter colours and heraldry, while others do not. I imagine for example the Vlandians and Imperials, possibly also the Sturgians to use bright colours and heraldry for their troops (not all but some of them), while other cultures such as the Battanians, Khuzaits and Aserai don't strike me as much as cultures who would do that.

I think a combination of both is the right way to go on this issue.

Aserai would use colors. Late Antiquity and medieval Arabs primarily used plain colors rather than complex heraldry. Early Muslims and the Umayyads for example identified themselves with the color green. Fatimids used primarily white and Abbassids had black.  And the Ayyubids (even though a kurdish Dynasty) identified themselves with the color yellow. But in principle I agree with you. It depends on the culture.

I have one major complaint: there are too many yellow factions. And they use a very bright neon yellow color. Why is Vlandia yellow instead of red?

Are you sure that this was actual Single player footage? Because I've always assumed it is either Multiplayer (where colors could change) or test footage. But it seems that the official color of Vlandia is red

I'm happy that they've been trying to tone down the bright colors, but why does red look a lot brighter than yellow with the improved armor stat? lol

The use of color on the battlefield is well documented. The highly saturated artificial dyes as depicted in some of the images in this thread simply did not exist during the dark and middle ages. The colors should be a lot less saturated to be even remotely believable (NOT like the highly-saturated primary blue color in the previous post), but there SHOULD be a lot of colorful clothing, emblems, tabards, banners, and other items. The majority of the clothing shown so far looks too dark and depressing; there should be more natural off-white cloth (linen, wool, or cotton), a lot of it dyed in somewhat muted or slightly pastel shades.

The official faction color should be used by a lot of troops of the better-organized factions, particularly by their higher-paid professional troops, with far less uniformity among the loosely organized tribal factions or the conscripted levies.

As pointed out, Rome reserved the color purple for its ruling elite. The senators were allowed a narrow strip of purple on their togas, the emperor was permitted unlimited use of the color. True blue dyes were also rather hard to come by in the past (before the 1700s), so you'd rarely see it used for military uniforms where it would require significant quantities of blue dye, although it became fairly common by the 1800s.

Oh boi...

Oh my goodness...
I know we want to focus on the rainbow armies, but I am more worried about the AI.
That shieldwall formation better still be in development, because that is a JOKE. Spread so absolutely thin, and they don't even try to form up, with the guys way in the back moving the same turtle pace as the guys in the front.
Also, you can tell that the AI can't perfectly distinguish terrain, with a good chunk of their legionnaires on the lower slope of the hill. This is clearly detrimental in the battle, as the right flank of the Empire are trapped between the cliff and the enemy. Should Sturgia win the inf battle, the imperials wouldn't be able to rout. Then there is the indecisiveness of the imperial archers the entire length of the battle which speaks for itself. Let's hope EA REALLY helps, or maybe that this battle was the exception.

Someone, please correct me in saying this was just an attempt to utilize the AI in an experimental custom battle and isn't actually how the AI will act in SP when the game releases... even in EA.

I don't mind the colors. I hate the little circle things so much that when I get a multiplayer game w two of the same factions I get annoyed cause I have to turn them on. That being said if you guys are annoyed by how bright the color is, muting them shouldn't be too difficult through a mod. I just don't see how this is important enough for the devs to go out of their way to change it, but if there is even a semi-active modding community then someone will get rid of it soon enough after EA ends.

The best solution is to provide an official switch to turn it on/off. Or similar to all TOTALWAR games, there is always mods to address texture colouring.

Remember this is custom battle. It may be done to distinguish units better from eachother.

Yes, I'm keeping in mind it isn't official. Still, any recent SP battle devblog screenshots really showcased the same.

Hell no!

This:

is a hell of a lot better than this:

Just add a couple good looking banners to the first pic and we've got ourselves a game!

Speaking of which, Terco is it possible to Tercosketch some banners into the first image?

it was somehow ok cuz i got beta key last week , but after i saw this , hell no , Plz TW add a witch to enable or dis enable colors
Plz plz plz

For SP it's absolute ballsack, there's so many ways to distinguish friend and foe, simply painting them in a bright singular colour is just lazy.

I would like to play without those ally icons on top of their head in SP (or icons to only appear if i pick certain unit, so i would know who i am ordering to in battlefield). Having bannerman would be enough imo for managing army during battle, but it wouldn't be enough if player decides to involve into the clash (this is also an action game after all). I like the idea of troops wearing different colors depending on faction, but those colors should be washed down a bit if they are still as strong as in screenshots above.

Or, just certain part of armor/some accessories would have colors on them, like belt etc.

Turning off the ally icons is actually a setting you can change. I watched a guy play captains mode beta with the icons turned off and I could not tell who was who. I don't watch his streams anymore because of it. It was just too confusing.

You are right, you can turn it off. It would be confusing in Captain gamemode, but singleplayer was supposed to have different colors for factions, so turning it off would still be alright to differentiate factions from each other.

I just want their colors to be washed down to look less annoying. Bright colors on armor look weird.
