The game has ceased to work utterly

It's been a while since this problem arose but I didn't take note of it so much as I thought that it would fix itself when I reinstall but... here I am.

The story is as follows: I had .808 installed and it worked normally. Then I installed .89x to another folder (same drive) and it worked fine. Nothing was wrong until I tried to play .808. Apparently .89x overwrote whatever controls I had in .808 so that's where the first problem arose. The .808 controls were all messed up so I reconfigured them and it worked fine that time. Then I went back to .89x and I'm not sure anymore if it worked then but it got pretty messed up anyway. The last version I had the change to use was .893. I haven't tried .894 but seeing as .808 and .893 have both ceased to work on my computer, I doubt it would make any difference. The error is a generic Windows "would you like to send an error report to Microsoft" kind of error when I try to start mount&blade.exe.

I tried twice to reinstall after using the normal uninstaller but to no avail (I've uninstalled both versions and reinstalled .808 a few times) and I also tried to uninstall with Revo Uninstaller that scans for leftover registry entried left untouched by the uninstaller (such as the messed up control-options and serial key entries) but it still doesn't work. It might be a problem with Windows that I've caused myself so my only way out is probably a fresh install of Windows but **** it. M&B ain't that big for me to be going through that much trouble on a laptop (Acer Ferrari 4005WLMi) Just saying hi, if anyone has a problem that's kind of like this or exactly like this.

M&B stores the configuration, saves and user info in the My Documents folder. Try uninstalling, deleting the M&B folder from My Documents then doing a full install of the game.

Sounds to me like it's the config files which are borked.

Actually the information would be in Documents and Settings --> User --> Application Data, but the Mount&Blade-folder there is empty as I haven't been able to start M&B for it to create any new files. And I've deleted the save folder in My Documents, there are no other M&B folders in My Documents.

That was my initial conclusion also but I tried Revo Uninstaller so that it would get rid of them for me. I also checked manually and it's all gone, but the game just doesn't want to work. Reinstall of Windows is probably the easiest way to get it working.

Sounds like screwed registry entires to me.
Try registry cleaner or registry mechanic or whichever is free.

Once again I used Revo Uninstaller to delete leftover registry entries. It did not work. I used CCleaner to look for any problems in the registry which was pretty pointless since I did a full scan few days ago wiping out tons of unused extensions and references to uninstalled software. Either I'm missing something or Windows is just being a jackass.
