I definetly would choose vibrant free-form play and goals over the other options. The combat is already extremely well developed, though a few different terrains and tactical options would make combat even better.

While I would like to see differing missions (many good ones have already been suggested), I think it would also be great to have your choice of previous profession (squire, merchant, priest, or hunter) factor into your later development. It is great that you get a few different weapons, skills, and money depending on your choice.

However, it would also be nice to have tournements play a greater role in developing your charecter if you chose a squire as a past profession. Perhaps you could even be knighted (though it should be harder, but possible for others who were not squires to become knighted by one of the two factions). You could also be given the charge of hunting down Rhoegar the black, a notorious bandit who hates everthing vaegar (rather than some group of unknown thieves who raided a town for an unknown reason).

If you were a hunter in your past, why not have a couple hunting quests available primarily to hunters? For instance, a merchant (or cook if there was another NPC type in the capital) could ask you to hunt down and track a white stag or some sort of animal and bring it to the castle for a fiest day. Perhaps you would be invited to an archery contest on a festival day. However, it would be nice if at a later point in the game, these options were available for other charecter types.

If you were a merchant, perhaps it would be nice if you could buy a slave/servant to set up shop in Zendar, one of the capitals, or towns. You could bring some of items you purchased/looted to your servant, and have him "sell" goods to common townsfolk. Perhaps you could even comission a ship or a caravan to begin trading throughout the Swadian cities. As with the other ideas, at a certain level (level 20-30?) it would be great if other charecter types could access these options as well.

If you were a novice priest, perhaps you could be more involved in the life of other npcs. You may have to hunt near the ominous Dorak (sp?) keep in search of a rare cure for the princess of Swadia. Perhaps you could aid that traveling band of refugees to a town that they were desperate to reach, or set up a new town and govern it, to a certain extent, while you traveled amongs the land. Perhaps a peasant would give rumor of a mysterious artifact (that would be sold only, or perhaps would be a nice gift for that stuck-up Swadian King) that is rumored to be in the hands of a Vaegar captain who is traveling to Praxen.

To keep the game going, it would be nice if classes were allowed to access these class related quests when they were a little more wise and experienced (say lvl 20 or so?).

One of the reasons I bought this game was it reminded me of an old RPG I had, Shadowlands - the map was comletely open, and you could play forever without actually messing with the story line - but, if you wanted, you could go to an event that happened every so many days, and move farther towards the end goal. Not saying it's necessary to make the game, but it's an interesting idea.

mmm, I would say, all of the above, though having the main quest being like Morrowinds, you don't even have to do it if you don't want to, and you can do it at your own pace, also being able to reject missions if they're timed, as I am not that fond of timed missions.
