You can't join them, the best you can do is make friends by helping them in battles, and then they won't be hostile anymore. They'll even help your faction (if you are a King) in battles and help defend your villagers, sheriffs, and caravans from enemy Lords.

Be warned that there is a looping script that checks your relations with the "evil" factions once a week and resets it if it gets too high. You can only have the Snake faction as high as a +10 relations before they turn hostile again. The heretics will reset to -10 no matter what, so you can't permanently make friends with them. All of the other evil factions like Mysts, Outlaws, and Red Brotherhood are reset to +10, so once you make friends with them, you are friends forever... until you betray them by attacking them yourself. :smile:

You can't join them because they're supposed to be the "bad guys", and the player is an honorable man/woman, not given to be in league with outlaws and criminal scum. I'm just glad that there is a game mechanic to kinda align myself temporarily with them, as they can be valuable allies when you are starting your own kingdom.

As for changes in 3.6 that's coming out sometime, maybe soon... who knows? I've posted suggestions in the 3.6 thread about this, and my impression was that the dev team and Saxondragon are against any kind of "player joining the bad guys" stuff. So.. probably not gonna see you able to become a Snake Cultist or a Heretic, for example. I've tried talking to them about this, believe me. :smile:

I hope you don't mind if the loophole allowing you to be friends with the Snakes is closed? The Snakes and the Heretics are not supposed to be your friends. That also means less player kingdoms starting in the Cez area.

Haha, it's probably for the best, MV... even Fawzia's voiceover during char creation talks about destroying Azi-Dahaka -- and that's who the Snakes worship.

PS That still leaves Jatu, Singalians, Mystmountain, Outlaws, Vanskerries (kinda the same as Outlaws), Myst bandits, Forest bandits, Dshar bandits, Red Brotherhood, Outlaw Knights, Adventurers, Mettenheim, Veccavians, Barclay Conquistadores -- I think I can make enough friends with Evil factions to where I won't miss the Snakes or Heretics overly much. :smile:
 
5 of those factions hardly count. 6 if you count the Singalians (fairly useless except in the 200 strong warbands). The rogue Knights and Adventurers aren't much of a challenge past the mid game either. Not for a player or any lord with above 60 men.
 
They're not THAT useless once you realize that they won't mess with your villager spawns anymore. Friendly Rogue Knights will stop chasing off your caravans, etc. Think of them being friendly as better survivability for the little guys in your kingdom... they matter, too. :smile:

Part of this being a roleplaying mod is that some of the sandbox elements are thrown under the rug. Yeah, minor factions are great and all, but they're all bad and want to kill you, and there's no point in helping them with anything, especially the ones that spawn armies (exception being Noldor, because SOME people are pansy elf lovers). The only point in befriending them is if they spawn in your kingdom's area and you don't want your villages being wretchedly poor because they can never get back and forth from their destination.

They aren't treated like a separate kingdom upon entering the field with an army, kind of like how the Black Knight invasion works in the Native Expansion mod, so they can never hold land. It would be pretty nice if these invading armies would actively try to ruin everybody's day by sieging fiefs and holding them, and having their own kings and lords, but that would take effort I'm not sure people are willing to put in. Besides, you're supposed to be the good guy. Kind of lame, but that's just the nature of the beast.

native expansion mod you say? Have a link perchance? and can I mod this native expansion mod with open mod SYs?
 
Why everyone states that outlaws/forest bandits are bad guys... You do realize that there are gossips that show them as victims? ike the tale when family goes hungry, father was chatched on hunting in lords forest and hanged, his family is more hungry so they trun to bandits so they wont die :razz:

I always make amends with bandits, as some of them may be in fact good guys so i dont want to kill them :grin: Also, they dont bother my farmers when i start kingdom in sarleon (that city where they always have hideouts and there is just like 32894723948 of them roaming if no one is killing them) But there is no mercy for the rest!
 
Enable cheatmenu, talk to their king, and something will appear with the word "Cheat" press that, and press CHEAT: i want to join youre faction.

*cough* The Minor factions have no kings, only named spawns which are warlords more than anything else. *cough*
 
I can't make the Knights of the Dawn like me! I can't get those idiots above -10 relations, and their damn patrols are everywhere:cry:
 
You just have to dump most of your troops off somewhere then kite them about. Try and find a heretic party. The Knight party with 7 Knights loves to tangle with them and they generally end up losing, so swoop in and that's 4 easy relation points and a chance at some good loot.

And if you are having problems with them, just wait for the -40 Eventiders :razz:
 
Conquer Valonbray, disband order of the dawn, then establish order of the dawn and lol +10 relations for 20k gold. I always think of it as disbanding stupid fanatics, and reestablishing order that is more like Sir Roland :razz:

You have to have decent relations with them or you won't be able to make a order of the dawn once you take Valonbray and disband them/ they disband themselves.
