Yeah it's limited at first, but eventual goal is to give a free Interrail 30-day pass to every EU teenager when they turn 18. Not a bad idea to promote cultural exchange between various European countries. Now if people would actually use them...
Yeah, that's the thing. It needs to be tied to something that you get after using it to a certain degree. If we still had mandatory civil/military service, I would just say that it should be made a part of that in some shape or form (though that would have only covered guys).

Free interrailing my ass, that's not how you maximize profits under capitalism. If this ever becomes real, it's going to get paywalled ASAP, directly or indirectly.

The Commission is introducing a new rule of law mechanism to protect EU taxpayers' money. One of the prerequisites for sound financial management and effective EU funding is the successful operation of the rule of law in areas such as the proper functioning of the judiciary and the prevention and sanctioning of fraud or corruption.
The new proposed rules would allow the Union to suspend, reduce or restrict access to EU funding in a manner proportionate to the nature, gravity and scope of the rule of law deficiencies.

Watch how Poland and Hungary will erupt in protests. How dare the bloody EU demand us to do X or they turn off the money feed!

Watch for Finland forming an alliance in the EU parliament over opposition to this with Poland and Hungary. Truly in good company there.

Why would Finland oppose this?

That seems to be our current direction. In the question time earlier today, for example, they talked about negotiating down these demands and ministers such as Terho made vague allusions to "other countries" who'd support them, among them Poland and Hungary who are totally opposed to this.

Terho and Soini have been talking a lot of **** about EU. Luckily for everyone sane, their opinions are worthless now since nobody will vote them and the parliamentary elections happening soon.

Well, I hope you're right.

It's really just a desperate attempt on their part to lure some PS voters to their splinter party by flicking the old anti-EU carrot around. Government wouldn't fall if they left it as I think KD or RKP would be quite happy to replace them so they can't even hold KOK or KE hostage with that threat.

This is, however, quite a dangerous approach given that the public in both Poland and Hungary perceives financial aid as the primary benefit of their EU membership, with the free movement being only of a secondary importance.

Oh god, those guys. Yeah. That makes sense. At least the beginning of that question time was funny to watch, Orpo was literally shaking from rage when the SDP roasted his government.
