Neither did I. But then again, I have always been a fan of white trainers, for some reason. I've never worn classy shoes in my life (except Gillie Brogues with my kilt :3 ).

White trainers are useful since they're fairly bland. The shoes that Mag posted here are not. The other shoes aren't sneakers at all, and are fine.

The offerings I made were in direct response to the price comment. Other brands will give you better quality of shoe for more money. Skechers has good offerings, and bad offerings. I'd say that anything which has an ugly sole, or which is too "busy" (extra material/patterns on the body of the shoe when it's not needed) is probably not gonna be a good idea.

If you're gonna get sneakers to do sports things in, get whatever is comfortable to wear, and supports your foot adequately for the activity. If you want casual shoes to wear around all the time, a sneaker hybrid probably isn't the best bet.

I'll have to stick with the compliments I've received, and more importantly, the word of my gf. Who is really the only person I have to care about in that regard. Especially since I don't have the cash for the shoes you think are both quality and casual. A sneaker hybrid is the right mixture of affordable, comfortable, and looks for me. Trainers tend to look trashy, and what you refer to as good casual shoes tend to be too expensive and uncomfortable. Not to mention, I haven't liked the style of any of the ones you've linked to.

If you're seriously thinking about shoes, don't go to Target or Walmart. They just have cheaper versions of things other brands do better. I've got a pair of Sperry boat shoes that will work with pants and shorts, but are too casual for church/temple/an interview/etc. My everyday shoes lately have been a pair of Red Wing Iron Rangers. Big investment ($250), but will last for the next 15 years.

Red Wing Iron Rangers are very nice shoes indeed.

I'll keep in mind not to go to the US for shoes.

Not much I can do there.

Or here.

If you like the look of the sneaker hybrids, you're already going to be disinclined to anything I suggest, because I'm not going to suggest them. My main point here is that sneaker hybrids are too busy. And as to price, the sneaker hybrids are 60-something bucks. There's plenty to find around there. If you're absolutely not willing to spend over 70 dollars for a shoe, that is totally fine, and I respect that. In most cases, I don't either. I've since found that shoes are not something I should skimp on price for. 60-100 dollars is my butter zone.

Good leather, and I can wear them with almost anything. The more dressier outfits might require a coat of boot oil to clean them up a bit, but that's a ten minute job.

I used to wear all black clothes.
Then slowly but surely started buying colorful clothes. A year ago I swore never to wear all blacks again.
It's just, dull.

My brother tried stepping into my car once wearing all black, I told him to get the **** out.

Naturally, and they last for bloody ages. My dad had a pair from the 90's which I promptly stole.

I guess that's where we differ. I don't find them terribly busy, as long as the colors aren't wildly different, and I prefer something that carries some interest to something completely plain. At least for everyday wear. My dress shoes, of course, are much more clean.

Trainers I tend to wear casually tend to look like this, though not those exact ones. They tend to last me a few years and I tend to pick them up in sales when I need to get new ones. I tend to dislike flat soles, so I either get ones with a slightly raised heel or that kinda thing. Obviously, I have trainers for specific sports I do (tennis shoes, and I've also got indoor martial arty ones for me HEMA).

These are the shoes I use for pretty much everything; I have one pair that I wear all the time casually, and another that I keep clean for more formal-ish events. I also have a pair of Sperry's, but I rarely wear them.

Not to mention you just look **** and angsty to most people.

Many boots just look like heavy dress shoes when your slacks are covering them anyway.

Boots can, obviously, look very nice if you polish them.

How do you girly-men feel about cargo pants/trousers? I find them comfortable enough to wear with enough flexibility to be completely practical but they're not scummy looking like trackies. I had to wear an old pair of jeans yesterday cos my trousers were all dirty. It was horrible. Why does everyone wear jeans?
