The Calradian Cost of Living - Biggest Absurdities in WB

Night ninja makes a good point but I can't help and look at his signature and be confused, mainly because that is the attitude of many a "professional" competitor I have met, sadly. Hell, it doesn't even have to be physical sports to warrant serious afflictions.

BACK ON TOPIC, I noticed after conquering half the map and having business in every city, I wound up on in a small village, with a small farm. Apparently my character saw fit to abandon ruling the lands and slaughtering enemies for farming.

My favorite one is:

I'm riding against some troopers (I'm at level 43 with 8 strength) on a heavy battle horse then - at the right moment - I'm thrusting with my balanced heavy lance...and the nord recruit is blocking my attack with a simple, elegant movement...lol

The tournament battles between fighters with lances, if they don't knock one out at the initial charge, it can become quite the long, boring fight.  Slowly thrusting lances for 5 points of damage, or chasing each other trying to turn just right and get that couching damage...I hate those fights.

That's a quote from Deadwood, has nothing do do with what I'm saying.

So, what happens if I retire now?  Obvious, isn't it?  That's right - I soon "fritter away" what "little money" I have put aside, and end up as a pathetic drunk begging for booze around Sargoth and telling military stories that nobody believes.   All the lords forget how often I used to defeat them, or that I was at all their feasts for several years, and I somehow manage to spend 70,000 denars despite having no more armies to support, wars to fight, or garrisons to pay for...  Meanwhile I presume that all my companions go on living comfortably on the 20-odd denars a week that they're used to.

The difficulty percentage your'e playing at has quite a big impact on this and takes away a lot of points from your total. I dont know what level youre playing at but if you play with manual save on you will never reach the high percentage. If you start a game with automatic save it ups the difficulty quite a lot and you can end up gaining points for it rather than losing depending of course how your other settings are.

Ah, that's interesting.  I think I have it on standard default difficulty - 1/2 damage and all that - but with no markers for friendlies or any of the in-battle reports (not sure if that matters), and using manual saves.  No wonder it won't give me a "good" ending.  I'm not too concerned about what reirement text I will eventually get, but I do find some of them funny.  Should start raising the difficulty soon, battles are getting too easy.

Here's a non-absurd but worrying thing I need help with - Ymira has disappeared from my party.  I don't think I got any notification (she never complained at all) and I was never beaten/captured, but she just isn't in the list anymore to talk to.  In the character notes it says her whereabouts are unknown.  I haven't asked a traveller yet, but judging by my ratio of wounded/dead I am still recieving her surgery bonuses somehow.  Is this a bug, or will she turn up someplace?  I don't use her much in battle anyway, so if she's gone but I still get her skill bonuses that is fine by me.

I hate it when I'm fighting multiple enemies on foot and I have to backpeddle because of them. The merge into 1 being who can swing from several directions at the same time. You can hit them once but they'll definitely hit you back once you've done that.

And the fact that your character is a magnet to the enemies. The way they stick on you and follow you is just not normal. They stay as close as possible to you every time without failure.

I wish I could do that.

Also, if a group on people are attacking you, no matter how large your weapon, or how wide your swing, you will one it one at a time.

This is one of the most annoying parts. On foot, I either wield a Nord Long Axe, a two-handed sword, or a Morning Star with both hands. Any of those weapons would at least knock down a couple people with a solid swing but they only hit one. As it is, they often get so close to you that you can no longer swing and yet they have no issues hitting you even though a player couldn't in the same situation.

As perverse as it sounds, I've found that the best way when you have room to run (at least with the two-handed sword) is to slowly run away from the horde, turning from one side to another and catching them with the beginning of a sideways slash as you go. It's hard to explain but it works. You get momentum because you're moving forward, you thin out the group chasing you, and you actually can run away faster too.

Even if I could only hit and damage one at a time, I sure would think that the others would "jump back" or something.  Instead they squeeze together and become some hecatonchires like creature swinging and deflecting.

I ran into that very peeve today. It drives me nuts. I end up in a crowd situation, and I can't swing because my men are in the way... but with the bots doing it, they seem to be able to swing through each other. Or at least it seems like it at times.

Oddity: When you get married, your popularity rises with the entirety of the bride's family... but not the bride.

On the other hand, some might say that makes perfect sense.

Considering you don't even spend the wedding night there, you can't really blame her can you

Yes, a very good tactic. I use it when I'm the only one left in a siege defense, to kill as many enemies as possible before I go down.

Another oddidity that i keep experiencing is in the arena.
1. A group of 2 to 3 AI don't attack each other and actually gang up on other AI and me   (really annoying on 142% difficulty)
2. AI seem to swing faster than you.
3. just today I had an AI that peformed a FEINT ATTACK (mid swing he blocks and changes direction) I have actual video footage of this.

3-Nothing odd about that, and since the new patch they feint more than once.  It's supposed to give us a harder time dealing with them.  i guess it's working.
2-Proficiency and Agility are the key here.  Kings have 220 in all weapons, I suspect lords to have similar stats.  The named gladiators (Kradus, Dranton and Xerina) have even higher stats than that.

I made my last character to be the fastest person ever, 30 agility, 10 running speed and close to 300 on single weapon while only using fairly light armor, and she runs around slicing and dicing everyone.  She attacks faster than anyone else.

I think enemies in the arena are grouped into 4 or so teams, with a method for selecting new enemies from the teams to avoid one team having too many on the field.  This leads to really "fun" stuff when you get down to less than 10 enemies and a one AI team has a lot of members left, causing them to steamroll all the other bots before swarming you.

What I find odd about the arena is how selfish archers are.  They won't give up their bows for anyone, always switching to their useless daggers once they're attacked and refusing to leave their arrows behind once knocked out.
