How about the fact that you can spend years fighting day after day, killing hundreds of thousands of people personally in the most violent and horrific ways, and you don't go mad?
Either that or your character is a physciopath... Also maybe not thousands personally but there are people who go to war and kill hundreds and can still lead a normal life with a bit of PTSD.
